Waiting To Adopt . . .Soooo Aggravating! I put in an application in the Summer of 2012 with our local humane society to adopt a yorkie if one comes in. My application was approved and I have just been patiently waiting . . .This weekend, a 7 month old 1/2 yorkie, 1/2 schnauzer comes in. I didn't get a call about him at all, but saw him on FB and PetFinder. I immediately emailed them and sit here waiting for a reply. It said all inquiries about him must be submitted by email so they can send out an application and set up a meet and greet. I'm kind of disappointed that there wasn't some kind of data base for those who were already approved for adoption, and for those waiting for a specific breed, even though he's half. So I don't know what my chances are with this little guy . . .I'm sooo disappointed! I haven't even gotten a reply back yet. :( |
did you try calling..even though it says email you have already been approved so things may be a bit different. maybe you should stop by or put a call in just to see... |

Wish you were on the west coast. Last night we got 5 yorkies, 2 s**tz tzu's(sp) and 1 maltese from another rescue who had gotten them from a puppy mill. Most in rough shape but with time will be adoptable. They could really use a foster home who can help get them socialized. |

I am very much afraid I'd have 'wobbled' over to the Humane Society IN PERSON to see that baby if I was interested in him...but that's me! :D I know that volunteers at HS's don't have a lot of time, but in person they'd have no choice but to see me. :p Did you, by any chance, check into becoming a 'foster parent' for the HS? You might have a better chance of getting that call...no guarantees...in this case at 7 months old, he is adoptable already. (My fosters never went back...lol) I am looking forward to your updates...I hope you get him. |

Hopefully I'll hear tomorrow. |
I am the same way. Sorry to say patience is not one of my virtues ;) I would just go over. They have to talk to you and you get to see him. Good luck |
Fostering is different at the Humane Society than a 'rescue'...or at least, that's how it was here when we started doing it in the '90's. I am not sure how prevalent 'rescues' were at the time, though. Fostering doesn't have to mean you take every baby offered. It does mean you can choose to take one too young for adoption. At a point, we couldn't take more fosters (babies)...our decision...because we had our hands...and house...full with babies of local ferals. But, the babies we took in to foster, only went back so we could sign the papers to adopt. We are horrible at giving up a fur baby! :p:D Good luck...I can hardly wait to hear how it turns out. :D |
That would be my problem with fostering I would never be able to let them leave after they came lol. Wishing you the best at adopting this little one. |
Thank you everyone . . .I will surely let you know when I hear something. Would love to just drive there, but they aren't open to the public until tomorrow. I'm just gonna put it "out there" and hopefully he'll be ours . . My husband already picked out a name for him . . . Makes it harder for me for the let down . . .:( Right now they have him listed as "Cash" . . DH wants to name him "Eli" . .. :) Fingers and toes crossed . .. thinking good thoughts . .. hoping and wishing . . .:hands: |
Be there first thing in the am if possible. This is so exciting! |
saying a prayer for you...hope you get him! |
Did the application say on it that by filling it out and getting approval you would be contacted once a Yorkie type dog came into their facility? Since it was the weekend, maybe they don't make attempts to contact until the facility is open or maybe the person who contacts is out ill, nobody else doing it. Or hopefully just a clerical error and no one else notified in front of you. I wish our facilities near me had that feature that you could apply and sit and wait but here you just have to go look or go online, which is not updated too often so always lagging behind or missing the newest. Adopting through a shelter and things like that is so frustrating. Do you know if they test their dogs for heartworm? |

It was probably just a clerical error but maybe passing on one does cause a reshuffle. Whatever it was, I hope you get your little guy!!! Can't wait to hear and hope the news is good! |

Still, as hard as you try not to, you still start thinking of names, supplies you'll want to get, which bed to get, a little coat in just that size, and all of that. It would break my heart over and over. Finally gave up and called a breeder I knew who had some dogs another breeder had relinquished to her to place just the week before and had now been vetted, groomed, settled in a bit and were now ready for homes. Tibbe was one of those dogs! I was so happy to have my dog and stop the heartbreaking process of looking and hoping and getting so disappointed. |
Exactly how I feel! But this time around I wanted so desperately to adopt from a shelter . . .I have two guys from breeders and they are AWESOME, but I feel I want to adopt a little one that wasn't wanted or couldnt be kept anymore . . . And I now see they have him marked "on hold" and they haven't even talked to me or gotten back to me, so I'm wondering if I never had a shot at all . . . |

I have found that one shelter is this area, cannot put dogs on hold, so it is a first come situation, which would be tough if you are working. Another shelter puts dogs on hold all the time for rescues, etc., and they are also able to choose homes by the applications. Guess each shelter is different. But I have also found, just like you, that being patient does pay off in the long run, just takes awhile. |

Update - Well, I haven't heard anything at all yet, and now he has been removed completely from their website and from petfinder. I have to say, that at this point, it's pretty safe to say I am not the one who will be adopting him. I'm disappointed that they didn't even respond to the email I sent or the phone message. |
sorry that is very disappointing. but lets pray he went to the perfect home and your next baby will come anytime. keeping my fingers crossed. maybe you should go there anyway just to remind them you are still looking. sometimes things get lost in the shuffle. just a thought. |
