Trying to get my Yorkie!!!!!!! I've been researching /screening many many breeders to find th yorkie baby for me.I'm becoming confused ...so many breeders so many different prices, and all I want is a healthy little yorkie. I've narrowed down the my search and think I will have him or her very soon. I have to go see 2 different breeders little yorkies this weekend. I do have a question though. I read through some post about how much everyone paid for their yorkie baby ,but I still cant seem to tell what I should base the price on for mine ???? If I fly to pick up the her up ,then the cost has jumped fron 1,400 to well over 2,000 for airfare plus . I wish there were more breeders closer, but it seems the pictures of the Yorkies that are further from me are more what I'm looking for. any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Chellie

I am not sure what the criteria you have for your perspective baby, but with all of the responsible breeders in the MD,DC,VA,DE areas, I am surprised that you cannot find the best pet for you. There are probably 15 show breeders in the area and that does not include responsible, educated "hobby" breeders(for lack of a better discription) in this area. If you do not mind, would you please tell us a bit about what you consider important in your puppy. I am asking this for some specific reasons-one is, that the way questions are asked can cause some mis-communications.. You could decide to fly to see a baby based on the answers you are given and when you get tere the puppy is totally not what you are looking for. It might have paid you to stay here and spend a little more because the total could be the same amt when all is said and done..

still dissapointed I had decided to broaden my search because I wasnt comfortable with some of the breeders I had spoke to (in my area).I feel that this is the first time for me to be a new mommy to a yorkie and I just felt it was so much about the money with the select few I have spoke to.Meaning I learned more about the after care from reading seasideyorkies page than with the local person I was dealing with. I think the most important thing to me as I search for my new baby ,has been that I dont want to be mislead. I have been so well imformed from reading all of the questions that are asked here ,so I guess maybe I expect the breeders to be just has imformed if not more than me. as far as what I'm looking for I want a female fairly small, and with the short legs.I was asked to pay 5,600 for one the yorkie that I had fell inlove with, because she was going to be 3 1/2 -4 pounds and the short legs. It really upset me because I was under the impression the puppy was 1,500 at first then the price changed after a few emails. (after I had fell inlove with this little girl) I am begining to slow down with my search ,even though I have waited years until my son was older to get my yorkie. any suggestions? -

| Contact your area's local chapter of YTCA. It's called Yorkshire Terrier Club of the Nations Capital, Inc. You can get all this info off the YTCA website. The Contact Breed Referral person is Mary Trimble and her number is listed on that information page http://www.ytca.org/frame_index2.html You can also look at the breeder list for your state and there are many to choose from. When you contact Mary, ask her what the going rate for pet puppies from club members in your area is and if she knows or anyone with an available pup. Usually chapter breeder refrerral contact officers are very helpful. I also looked at the show results for your area and was able to cross match names from the breeders listed for the state of VA with the show results. This all points me into the direction that there are some breeders in your area that are breeding quality pups that fall within the standard. Take the information you get from there and start researching some of them. Be nice if you can find a local show and go see what they their lines look like. PM me if you need any help.

I purchased a female puppy from a Texas breeder, Jeff Dane of Yorkiepups.com and had her shipped to me. When I got her at the airport she was sick and even though he offers a one year health guarantee, her condition is not covered. Please do not purchase from him. I have spent several hundred dollars on her and will have to give her medication for the rest of her life. I also have a male that I got from a local breeder and have had no problems with him. My advice is, even though it may take longer to find what you want, get your baby from someone local, with the parents on site if possible

I got mine from a breeder in Texas. No problems what so ever. Great, reasonable price. Full AKC registration. Gaurantee and shote UTD. Shipped to me and in great health. I won't post the site but if anyone has questions I MAY give you a referral. Please just let me know your true intentions. These ladies have become dear friends of mine and I don't want to send them any millers. =)

How old is your son? I hope he is not very young because these puppies are very fragile. I got Lexy last week from Beth Carl in MO. She has 2 females left and she will ship them to you in a climate controlled cargo bay. I WENT TO PICK Lexy up because I didn't want her to be stressed by flying. She was $1200 and the shipping is about $165, I think. Lexy has short little legs, a little square body and will be about 3 lbs. fully grown I think. She is eating well and seems very healthy to me. She did get tonsilittis, but that is not uncommon in these puppies and a shot of antibiotics cleared it right up. I don't think this was the breeder's fault at all. Also, I saw the parents and they are quite healthy. these babies are all very pretty with the baby faces. www.nthedoghouse.com will put you in touch with Beth. Good luck! Elizabeth

Elizabeth my son is a teenager , actually is one of the reason I cant wait for my new baby..Then I'll have somthing TO baby.. My son is moving on with his life..so I'm kinda of an empty nester Thank you all for the advice and info.I will take my time ,I do understand that not much is a guarentee as far a weight or the legs, but one thing I do know is no matter if the yorkie I bring home ends up w/long or short legs or ends up weighing more than I my have wanted. We will love and adore him/her just the same.It is just that I am looking around and there seem to be different types in the breed..I am no yorkie expert ,so I just use the best disciption I can when requesting (when asked) what I 'm looking for. Chellie If you know of a breeder that has puppies available near Virginia or the east coast..please PM me. Thanks again everyone!! Last edited by Chelliegirl; 03-12-2005 at 09:23 PM.
