| ![]() I have used our local shelter's low cost spay/neuter program to spay and neuter many cats and stray dogs over the years. They do a wonderful job. The incisions I have seen that vet do are remarkable. They do great work. I would not have been able to help as many animals as I have without them. However, when I got Gracie I took her to my regular vet. She got her blood work and a good check up before the surgery. While the vets at the shelter have tons of experience they do not have all the equipment and testing ability at the shelter that they have at their own offices. They volunteer their services at the shelter and that is why the organization can offer the procedure at a lower cost. A toy breed like the Yorkie should get all the benefits of the best technology in order to help assure a safe procedure. Another thing to consider is that when they do surgeries at the shelter they are having to do many procedures in a short time span. Many times the vet only has one untrained person to assist them. If something goes wrong they do not have a trained assistant to help them. |
