| Mine don't go outdoors, so honestly they never really smell! My oldest does have own unique smell though.... But weirdly, it's a sweet smell! I think it depends on the owner and their hygein towards their pet, whatever breed! Most of us YTers are obsessed with our babies and fix any and all problems ASAP! They smell bad... 5 minutes later they bathe! Lol

| The only smell my two yorkies have is when they fart and believe me, they can clear a room out with those little "stink bombs!" For such a small dog, they really can do some damage with those stinks. But as far as a "doggy smell..." Umm, nope, they don't have that.

| So I just sniffed Hueys feet to see if they smell like fritos (his feet have always had their own scent, but I never associated it with fritos) but he had a bath this am and just smells soapy and perfumy and good. If has been outside on a hot day basking in a sunbeam, he will smell kinda like a sweaty small child, but it goes away as soon as he cools off in the a.c.

| Bailey has no smell other than when he's been out running and jumping around outside. Then he has a typical dog smell. But I think it actually goes away later. A good bath and he smells like a petunia! |

| YorkieTalk Newbie! | Hello, I just joined this group since we recently rescued a dog that appears to be part Yorki. Poor thin downright STINKS! Lovey was a very sick dog covered in mange, infested with worms. All those issues are resolved, her hair is growing back, worm negative now as well, she remains slightly anemic but that is improving as well. We feed (dry food)California Natural Grain Free Chicken Meal. We live in the USA. We have 2 other dogs one large one small. No treats except for apples carrots bananas. Just don't trust anything anymore. Due to the mange she has to receive medicated baths almost daily since she was covered in green pustules. Now that that is all resolved she still stinks. If she is in your lap and gets up you can smell it on you clothes. It is not from her anal glands it is her entire body! Just was wondering if this is a breed thing? Gave her an Aveeno oatmeal bath last night and smells horrid this morning. Poor little girl is happy and lively but stinks up the house! I am sensitive to perfumes so I done want to go the doggy perfume route. Any suggestions...sorry this is so long, just wanted to give her history. |

| Its not a breed thing. One bath a week is all it takes to keep mine sweet smelling and shiny. Could it be dental? Are all the skin sores completely healed? Could the dog still have an underlying medical problem such as kidney failure or gi issues? If none of these are a possible source of the smell, I would go back to the vet and have the dog rechecked. There shouldn't be a bad odor, especially with daily baths. Oh, and welcome to YT!

There is a product called Yorkie Splash and Shine that many people use here. It is all natural and many use the products weekly to bathe the dogs. It has a great all natural fragrance that usually lasts at least a week. If it is a skin issue that may help if you use it weekly. It does not dry the skin and is very conditioning. Does she have any red spots left behind or dry areas? There are some other all natural products out there but this is the one that has worked well for me. | |
