| Well while mini schnauzers aren't large dogs I think they are perfect compatable companions with yorkies and also while little are very much big dog personnas. Derik doesn't like what he calls 'kick me dogs' not that he would kick obe but that while just walking you could accidently kick a little one across the floor. Anyways Princess won him over at day 1. I'm bias though, I had a schnorkie (mini schnauzer yorkie hybrid) then got my yorkie & my mini schnauzer. They are my favorite breeds...although I prefer dogs just over 10 pounds but under 20, I really have considered standard schnauzers and even a giant schnauzer down the line, but not with yorkies I prefer a somewhat equal sized pack and I'm very much a yorkie lover now

| Oh just for the sake of saying so, Derik and I fostered his exwife's whippet/rhodesian ridgeback cross-ridiculous bad mix IMHO total accident between two kennels several miles apart. Anywho Rhodesian Ridgebacks and similar guard breeds really do require specialty training, while we all have terriers here larger bred to kill breeds (not just guard breeds) should really be very specially placed. I would never again after working with a trainer familiar with those type breeds consider one in my home-ever-and I have fostered pits & staffs prior and would again.

| I just want to add that pack order can be upset when a new one is added. If you add an alpha anything you can end up with issues. Dogs do have an inborn personality type. Until the pup is a little older you just don't know what you are dealing with particularity with a group (pack) of dogs. If you add an alpha pup who decides to take over the role of an older dog you can have problems. I have dealt with this in the past and it has about paralyzed me concerning the issue of adding another one now. I ended up having to re home a dog due to the problem we had. I did not want to have to constantly keep the dogs separated to avoid problems. I don't think it is a very common issue but it does happen. In decades of experience of having multiple dogs it has happened to me once. My point simply being; dogs do not necessarily decide the order of the pack by who was there first. It is the dominant personality that rules. I guess you probably got a lot of food for thought with your question. It is really something to contemplate. I hope you come to a satisfactory conclusion. It's always fun to add a new dog. You are right to give it so much forethought. |

| YT 1000 Club Member | gracielove, It really saddens me, to hear of your problems with that integration. No doubt you just happened to encounter (somewhat rare) circumstances, and I hope that at some point try again. I feel confident, that in the vast majority of times, even with some animals having strong personalities, that strictly following the Rules will provide security for the Residents positions. In fact, I'm dealing with much the same issue right now. You are aware that I have recently added Ichabod to the Pack. And, he is one little terror. But, I am sure that My Male Sneakers (with appropriate support) will have absolutely no problem maintaining his Alpha status. Most have a great deal of trouble, placing the new guy on the bottom of the Totem, but, it's got to happen that way, IF you really want to maintain the balance of the Pack, and in my experience, doing that with a Puppy, makes the months and years ahead, a lot easier.

| YT 1000 Club Member | Just as a follow-up to the recommendations for the Herding breeds... Do you (any) think that an Old English would be a good candidate ? I've owned them before, and save for Yorkies, just totally LOVE that Breed. Your thoughts...

| YT 1000 Club Member | Uoops, excuse me for not replying sooner to your comment... I certainly hope that you do. In reality, I'm pretty egocentric and self-centered, BUT, I have to yield to Mother Nature in this instance... I love my Dogs, show them that EVERY DAY, and I know they love me. But, I have seen for myself, a connection between them, that a human can NOT fill. When I see My Female Becca, and Male Sneakers do that heartwarming nose touch with a little lick/kiss, or brush by each other, just to show that affection, I willingly admit my inadequacies. And will do what ever I can, for as long as I can, to see that need is met...for them.
