| If you are using the crate for potty training purposes, the crate should be just large enough for your dog to stand up and turn around comfortably. Some of the wire crates come with an adjustable divider.

| I don't crate train but I think an Xpen or a larger wire crate is a good idea so you can put a potty pad in with them. If you crate train you need to remember that puppies pee frequently. Leaving a puppy that has no control of the bladder in crate for long lengths of time will result in training your pup to pee in the crate since they cannot do anything else. You really need to be there to take the pup out frequently to crate train properly. |

| We use crates for sleeping at night (I am a light sleeper)and Abby is in a 36"high Isis ex penwith a potty pad when we go out during the day. We decided on "airline" (plastic) travel crates in case we have to evacuate for hurricanes, the dogs are already used to the type of crate they can travel in. For the yorkies we found the size small (16x24x14) from Drs Foster and Smith(online) to be the best size and price. (the xsmall was too short) I buy the rolled edge crate mats from Walmart. Great price and they hold up to years of washing. |

| I have the Petmate Pet Taxi Fashion (small) for Blazer. I bought it at Target for $14.99 and it's dimentions are 19x12.6x10. He is about 6 pounds right now. If he gets much bigger I may need to upgrade size but he's good for now.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | We have the Potty Training Puppy Apartment in a size small. But to be honest with you, I think we could've used an XS. Katie Scarlett has plenty of room. She is 4.4 pounds. It made potty training a breeze for us. We only use it in the house. When we go to the vet, I carry her in a Vera Bradley carrier or in a carrier that I made myself.

| The potty training apartment seems like a good idea but it's costly and I worry that it promotes the pup to go inside the den like atmosphere. I use the xsmall crate by Midwest. Our boy goes in there even when the door is open. Potty training was a breeze with the use of this crate since he just has enough room to stand up and turn around. We tried X-Pen with pads, a mid-size crate, potty pads in certain areas and they just didn't work for our dog. Find what works for your home and situation. But I'm an advocate of ensuring the right size crate for crate training.

| A medium sized wire cage can be used instead of the specially made potty training apartment. Having enough room to get away from the potty area is important if the dog is not removed frequently to go potty. Gracie was already trained like that when I got her at about 14 weeks old. She knew all about potty pads and was the easiest trained puppy I ever had. |
