| Yorkie Hunting Tips Our family is looking for a yorkie (or yorkie mix) and we'd prefer to rescue if we can. The problem is that as soon a dog is placed on PetFinder they're snapped up very quickly or I don't get called/emailed back. Can you guys suggest a few tips for finding a dog in our area? I'm in the NYC tri state area. One of my children is allergic so we have to have hypoallergenic. I've done all the research on training, pet insurance, finding a vet and dog parks in the area. The only thing we're missing is a dog. Are there Yorkie Rescues around? THanks for your help! |

| I am not much help but I rescued a little girl a few years ago right here on YT. Have you checked the Yorkie Rescue and New Homes Needed part of the forum here?

| There is a place called petharbor . com that lists dogs from 3 different shelters in the NYC area. You can get on their email list and they will email you with the latest dogs that have been brought in. You would want to have them send you the daily small dog list. I do think that they have a few rescues that pull the purebred dogs if at all possible. You might want to talk to them in person or on the phone to see if there is any way you can be notified by phone when a dog like what you are looking for comes in. Otherwise you might want to check out the rescues in your area. Petfinder . com is a good place to do a search for rescues in your zip code. |

| contact Heidi at Yorkie 911 they are based on LI but place pups in the Tri State area. you can check them out directly on their web site, they are a fairly large rescue group that are dedicated to yorkies and small breeds and often have a lot of dogs. Good luck LOL just realized my avatar is from one of their big fund raisers called Resuces on the Runway, if you want a rescue pup they should be number one on your list to contact.

| Hypoallergenic dogs can still cause allergy to some degree..make sure you have tested it out with your friend's/family's dog first before adopting..

| You might also consider a poodle, they do not shead either.
