YorkieTalk Newbie! | Yorkie or maltese?!?!? I'm getting a puppy in June, about 8 months from now. I can't decide if I want a maltese or a yorkie though. I'm leaning towards a maltese because I've heard they can be nice calm lap dogs, and they can play, too, which is what I want. A dog that can relax, and also play all day is the kind of dog for me! So, this is my lifestyle: Big house, big yard(no fence though), no other pets, 2 kids(12 and 11), and an allergic mother. Which one would fit us best? Can you list each of their temperaments? Thank you so much🐾🐶 |

| I dont know about maltese. People that go yorkie usually stay with yorkies. They are big personality in a small package. Many yorkies are lap dogs also you just have to look for a pup thats a cuddler. My female is the perfect lap dog

| I would say YORKIE all the way. My Remy can play all day if you play with her. She is very smart and very very sweet. She loves to cuddle and is one of the most loving dogs I ever have had or been around. Good luck with your new baby!!

| One more reason I like yorkies is their darker coloring. After 12 years of dealing with a white coat (wheaten terrier) I don't think I would ever go light again! |

| I've heard that Maltese are lap dogs, loving, loyal, good watch dogs and while Tibbe is a lap dog at times, loving and loyal, he's mostly full of attitude, feistines & activity and is a superb watch dog. Depends on what type you prefer. I'm a huge Yorkie fan - probably won't ever have another breed except as a rescue.

| One of each!!! haha If it was possible for me, I'd def be a doggy hoarder. Anyways, I think both are extremely adorable. I feel like you'd be able to find what you are looking for in either breed.

| I guess we didn't respond fast enough LOL I feel the same way. My friend has a Westie who is as cute as can be but he get's dirty so fast. I wipe Georgie paws when he comes in from outside but my friend is constantly wiping Quinn.
