| introduction Hello, I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. We just adopted a Biewer Terrier (hope we are still allowed here ) yesterday. he is 6 months old, his previous owners were moving to Germany and couldn't take him. He is currently named Waldo, as there were always saying where's the puppy. so they named him Waldo. We are in the process of trying to figure out a new name for him. he is a spitfire, and a lover and loves to have the zoomies and run around the house. he was pretty matted when I go him yesterday I gave him a bath and tried to get some of the mats out, but didnt' work too hard as i didn't want to stress him out, but i did have to but 2 bad ones from under his armpit area. You can tell he isn't used to grooming, but with time and patience I'm sure he'll be a good boy! I'm not sure how to post pictures yet. when I figure it out I will! Any name suggestions are welcome oh he weighs 4.5 pounds |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk! Sometimes with mats you have to shave there hair and start all over. When Callie had her puppy coat it was terrible I wasn't combing her as well as I thought so instead of hurting her we just got it shaved and started fresh.

| Welcome and congratulations on your new family member. Hope you are advancing on the mat situation. Mats that are close to the skin usually do have to be trimmed off. The mats that are not right on the skin you can try using cornstarch on. You work it into the mat with your fingers and the cornstarch kind of makes the hair slippery so you can comb it out more easily. You can also try a spray on conditioner for dogs that will loosen up the mat and help you comb it out. Hope to see pictures soon. I still haven't posted pictures except the avitar because the resizing just drives me nuts. |

| Thanks for the welcome! Still no name for Waldo yet, although Rhys is growing on me and it means fiery which he is! He hates the brush when he sees it he runs, so I am doing it little by little with puppy treats most of the mats I have got cut off, they were mostly on his legs and belly, and I was reading all the paperwork I got with him, and his previous owner got him groomed and they said he was matted as well, and to make sure he got 3 brushings a week to cut down on mats.. Apparently it wasn't done, but its a work in progress! I'm going to try and figure out how to upload pictures from my iPad, anyone have suggestions? Lol |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk! Your puppy is adorable I would definitely recommend just shaving him to give his hair a fresh start.

| Hello and Welcome to YT! He is a cutie. You could try some type of detangler, but you might have to have him shaved and start all over again. The good thing about hair/fur is it grows back out!

I too like Waldo, it's unusual - 'over here' it's 'Where's Wally' - now there's an alternative for you! Look forward to getting to know you! Sally + Harry x | |
