Welcome and congratulations on your new family member. Hope you are advancing on the mat situation. Mats that are close to the skin usually do have to be trimmed off. The mats that are not right on the skin you can try using cornstarch on. You work it into the mat with your fingers and the cornstarch kind of makes the hair slippery so you can comb it out more easily.

You can also try a spray on conditioner for dogs that will loosen up the mat and help you comb it out. Hope to see pictures soon. I still haven't posted pictures except the avitar because the resizing just drives me nuts.
