Dawn is supposed to be a grease cutter. You may need to later him up again and get the Dawn right down to the skin. Just keep it out of his eyes.

When I used to show Himalayan cats they always got a bath in Dawn before the show. It made their fur so fluffy and it would stand right out from the body.

Don't use any more oil or Vaseline! Bacon grease is fairly soft at room temperature and would rinse out fairly easily, but adding more oil won't help and will make it worse. Do you have any no tears dog shampoo? Also astringents, Sea Breeze or Witch Hazel can be used on the face and they cut grease.
