| Microchips - Question about Registration Fee Is it common for there to be a charge to register a microchip? I've never had a dog microchipped and I just wanted to be sure I'm not getting scammed or anything. The website I went to charges a one time $21.95 fee for registration. Website is Pet Microchip Official Registration Center. Thanks! -C

| I have never had to do this. I know that if any info needs to be changed once it's first registered then they charge a fee to change that info. Maybe it also depends on what kind of Micro Chip you had implanted. (ie-Avid, Home Again).

| Oh, and also...we didn't pay for the chip to be put in. It is something that the breeder does automatically on every puppy. So I suppose there's the possibility that when you pay a vet, the registration fee is rolled into the cost of the implant. -C

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I know of two companies, Home Again and Avid, and sometimes it's included in the cost of the microchip. I paid nothing extra to register Joey with Home Again, however, things may have changed and some companies even have yearly registration fees. I also registered his number with the AKC, just in case. Not sure what your link is, and who they work with, for example, if your local pound doesn't use their service, would you be notified? Next time you see the vet, you could see if his ID number and your name is easily found. Did your vet put in the microchip, or did you buy the microchip from this company and do it yourself?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | In some states, breeders are required to mcrochip the dogs, you would need to find out the name of the company and register as the new owner, and yes there would be a charge for this, but it should be a one time fee as long as you leave in the same home or have the same phone number. Anytime you have to update it, there will be a clerical fee. It sounds like anyone can register with this company, no matter who makes the chip.

| You can get it done at your vet's office.

| I think I have to pay around that amount to change the information associated with the chip into my information cause right now, Geno's chip has the vet's information.
