Poor Tinkerbell. I think Tatiana would have been that way, too. She's small (3 lbs), and sometime have trouble maintaining her body temperature. That's why I blow dry her right away after every bath time (no delay). She's my only dog, so it's easy for me to do that. Also, when the weather is cold, a doggie sweater is a must for her. |
I shower both of mine and blow dry both...I keep my house on the cooler side in the summer...cant stand the humidity up here. In the winter i keep the house really warm...dont like the cold either!! Must be a female thing.... |
Hmmm that's odd. Nope, Jax has never been blow dried. He always just hops out and air drys. None of the dogs here have ever shivered that badly after a bath and all air dry... |
Oh my gosh. I'm glad she's ok. I let mine air dry all the time without any problems. |
I'm glad Tink is doing great now. Maybe it is the fact that they don't have the undercoat that other dogs have that helps to create this problem. Gracie has a silky coat, too. My Shih Tzu had a huge thick coat and never had an issue with being cold in or out of the bath. My Maltese was the same way. I have to say the Rinse Ace has helped the situation a lot. It works so much better than having to stand there pouring water over her with a cup. We are in and out in just a few minutes time. I wrap her in a big towel and sit down and comb her out and blow her dry right away. She hardly ever shivers anymore. It has been a learning experience with this little one. |
Maybe it has something to do with the water temperature...like us going in a cold pool will get you shivering like no other when you get out. I remember reading along time ago about the water temperature a dog should be bathed in compared to humans and thought it rather cool. ZoE likes a warmer bath, which works for me as I often just take her in the shower with me for a quick clean up. Glad to hear Tink is doing better. Hopefully it was just a one-off thing. |

Now, both of them run like their buts are on fire after I towel dry them, up the stairs on to my bed and roll and snort and drag and scratch the bed etc, like lunatics without their meds...very funny to watch though! After one of them almost falls off the bed is cue for me to start blow drying, first Miss Mini and then Miss Mia who patiently waits her turn...(hates the bath but loves the blow dryer...go figure) Miss Mini is well behaved for bath and blow out! Miss Mia is quite the character...!!! |
I bathe and blow dry each of mine. Even the ones with a thicker coat end up shivering if I don't. I guess my house is too cold....oh well, they all look forward to "spa" time... |
In the summer, I towel dry Abby only, and then she rolls around on the couch and/or in her bed, and i will let her walk out back on the patio in the sun for a few minutes. In the cold winter, while I'm bathing her, her towel is being warmed up by a heating pad on low setting so it's warm when I wrap her in it, and then we go in the bathroom where I've plugged in a little portable heater and closed the doors to get it very warm in there (plus i make sure to turn up the thermostat for the furnace a few extra degrees) where then I blow her dry! So much easier to give her a bath in the summer! |
Thanks everyone for all the replies. I'll see what her vet has to say about this tomorrow. |
I take Milo upstairs to the big room with all carpet to dry. He loves to run around and dry rolling around and rubbing against the couch and chair. When he gets tired he will come and get in my lap for me to blow dry him. He loves the blow dryer to. I think it calms he to. I love watching him run and dry himself. He is so funny and wild. |
3 Attachment(s) I am so sorry what happened with Tink...I wouldn't want mine to shiver from cold so I wouldn't want that for your babies either. I am glad everything is okay. I do not air dry my Yorkies, I always blow dry them, matching the heat setting to ambient room temp so they are never too hot or too cold. In the winter, I set up a small space heater to warm that corner of the room during their bath and blow dry. Like I said, I do not want them to shiver or be either cold nor too hot. I do bathe together, however, with no issues whatsoever. They do not always get baths together...sometimes one needs an interim bath from a bad poopy placement...usually from the wind blowing their hair in the direction of the placement...dirt digging, etc., but their regular bath time has been tandem for many months now. I bathe together, pluck both out of the tub together, and blow dry together while they plow in a big fluffy towel. When they are sufficiently dry, and they each know when, they will individually lift their heads up so Mommy can blow dry under their chins. Last, we blow dry paws, then there's the comb out, after which, all pretty from Mommy's brush, they promptly adjust their looks to a properly mussed coiffeur. :p Here are some pix...DH marvels at my tandem bathing carry hold...which is quite easy and they are quite secure and seem to love the group hug, so he took pix, then after DH took the second photo of me carrying both, I noticed I was wearing the same shirt as in the first photo...too funny...but it is seersucker, really comfortable to move around in, and dries in like 30 seconds and I do like it for bathing 'cuz I am not certain who ends up wetter...them...or me! :D |
Jaeger always shivers a little. I generally wrap him up tight in a towel for awhile, and sort of rub dry, then towel dry, then he does the "bath zoomies" hyper dance around thie house. I dont use a blow dryer. |
I towel dry mine, brush them, and then let them air dry. I tried the blow dryer and they FREAKED OUT big time! They run around, roll around, etc. Then I brush them again after they dry. |
Do you all use a blow dryer or a dog grooming blower? I use a cold air option Andis right now, but I'm thinking about buying a real dog blower. I was just afraid they wouldn't be warm enough... |
