YT 500 Club Member | colors of a yorkie pup Hey everyone, I have a five month old puppy. When I first got her she was totally black and tan. Now the top of her head is all light tan almost white, with the black on the tips from growth. Is that the normal coloring of a puppy? Her body isn't full black either. Looks like its turning grayish black, or white, hard to tell. I have a older yorkie and his coloring was never like this. He's still black and tan. Just wondering. I know they change color as they grorw, but five months turning color already????

| I think it is kind of normal for some Yorkies to change color. I don't think she should turn white though unless you bought a Biewer or a Parti Yorkie. I think they allow for small white spots on the head of a regular Yorkie but not a lot unless they are one of the other types of Yorkie. Gracie lost a lot of her black as she matured. She has gold where a lot of the black was. |

| Laddy started breaking coat at 3 months. It is perfectly normal. He turned white on his face and top first before breaking gold.

| What you described sounds perfectly normal. Puppies should change color. A Yorkie that stays black and deep rust is not usual. My Rubin stayed black and deep reddish tan, his hair grow very slowly and never gets very long. Rubin is what breeders call a Red legged Yorkie, it refers to his coat color and type.

| It's normal for yorkies to change color. Here are some sites with more info Yorkshire Terrier Information Center | Details of Yorkie Coloring There used to be an excellent chart with pictures made by yt member. I think it's yorkiepassion or something like that. However, can't find it any longer. If anyone has that, please post. |

| Get used to changes. My Jewels was black and tan as a pup. Then at about 3 months she was white on the top of the head and then it turned to gold. Her back turned to silver then blue then tan with some silver. She was about 5 yrs old wheen she stopped changing
