People who sell at flea markets, in front of stores, etc., are way too mobile. By the time someone tries to do something about them they very easily pack up and leave. Legislators have tried to hit these people at the point of the suffering....in the cages where the animals are bred. Legislation that regulates where people sell things comes under the commerse law and that is a very complicated thing to work with. If this is going to be stopped it has to be at the root. If AKC wants to help with this issue they could very well spend their dollars hiring lawyers to help craft legislation that will stop the puppy mills and BYB's instead of simply being obstructionists. It is ludicris to imagine that legislators are out to stop the breeding of all pure bred animals. If breeders are clean and humane they will not be effected by any legislation. | |

| They have a HUGE flea market in Canton everty year...people come from all over the country to that flea market...there are HUNDREDS of dogs stacked in crates, every year, for sale...it is no secret...no one runs and hides...they dont have to because they know no one is going to show up and bust them...it isnt illegal, so why should they worry? If it was illegal to sell animals in flea markets, etc, the organizers of stores, flea markets, etc maybe wouldnt be so quick to hire out booths for such activities. THAT would have an impact on the pocket books of puppy mills that sell their dogs there, regardless of what AKC supports. What about CKC, ACA and the other "off" registeries that most of the puppy mills use to register their dogs? |

| Again, regulating what and where people can sell things comes under the commerce clause of the constitution. Dealing with that is a whole other issue. We both know that the AKC is the best and the ruling registry in the USA. They have the money to obstruct legislation to regulate the humane treatment of animals. The other registries don't even bother because they know the AKC will do it. I have no issues with AKC accept to say that instead of simply obstructing every legislative effort to regulate this horrible industry they should help to construct legislation that will be meaningful enough to to stop the cruel treatment of animals and also protect proper breeding methods. They spend plenty of AKC dollars stopping legislation. Why not instead help create proper legislation? |

| Zachary's Mom Donating Member | Here in Houston, they not only sell puppies at flea markets but on the side of the road, out of their cars and trucks. Every time I drive by one of these idiots, I want to stop and have a good "talk" with them and/or take all the puppies home. Louise ![]() |

| I would like to see these "people" treated exactly as they treat their products (because obviously these precious pups are not seen as anything else). It just hurts so much to think of what these sweet, innocent dogs and puppies are subjected to... |
