Not my lucky Friday the 13th. I think I'll give up for awhile. Mostly huge dogs there and a million cats! It was great to see so many being adopted. On the way out the door was (of course) a man standing there with his Yorkie. He already owned it, not from the event. Nearly broke my heart, she was so cute.

Not sure how far you are from Atlanta but we have a beautiful little Yorkie girl for adoption at Atlanta Pet Rescue.

She is the Mom of the baby Yorkie's they adopted out a few weeks ago.

Atlanta is about 5-6 hours from Jacksonville I think, but my car is so old I wouldn't think of driving it that far.

Oh, you sound like me. I had so many days like today for you. Went to adoption events, haunted the shelters, called the local Yorkie rescues(most never returned my calls) and if they did, the Yorkie I was calling about had just been adopted. After years of mourning Jilly & then over a year of looking for a small terrier type dog I could easily lift with my bad back & hip, I called Jilly's breeder. I got so tired of going into all those places so full of hope and finding no little terrier or terrier mix under 10 lbs. that hadn't already been signed for or they didn't have. I must have seen over 4,000 or 5,000 pitbull type dogs and GSD- and Lab- mixes but the small terrier dogs under 10 lbs. - I came too late to get first option & on claiming day, the first signer always showed up and got the little dog I so wanted. It sure got discouraging after a few months of that and then after over a year passed, I was pretty low on getting any type of small dog of the terrier type that I didn't have to have shipped to me. You get so tired of never finding a dog for you, you do have to stop looking for a while. Take your time "off" and then restart searching again when you've got your reveserves built back up.

Boy, do I. I spent so many days tired from going all over looking - and sad, sad, sad, sad, sad from the mostly hopeles dogs I saw - and no sweet little one to bring home that night! It is a devastating, soul-wrenching search at the same time it is so filled with hope & excitement.

What a beautiful baby she is! To the OP, is there a friend that can drive you to see her? She is a sweet looking little gal!! Maybe there are some other arrangement that can be made. I know what it is like to want a yorkie so bad and not be able to find one! They are few and far here in AK where I am. I hope you find the baby of your dreams...

I had much the same issue. After my 15 year old Shih Tzu died I was not going to get another dog. He was so well trained and I had been having some health problems so I did not want to face training a puppy. After several months I was so unhappy not having a dog I decided to adopt a small dog that needed a home. Well, that was easier said then done. Apparently in some areas small dogs are not abundant and people put their names on lists at the shelters so that the shelter will call them if a dog comes in that is like what they are looking for. Also many shelters call a rescue as soon a purebred dog comes in. So that makes it difficult to get a small dog from a shelter in certain parts of the country. You can put your name on the shelter's list and wait and see what happens. Keep calling and establish a relationship with the place.
I did look into some rescues but because I did not have a fenced yard I could not apply.

My humane society does not have a waiting list and it is 30 minutes away. By the time I get there, even if I am there first the dog has a hold on it. Small dogs do not come in very often. At least it's a no kill shelter,now. I am also friends with the 3 cities around me's animal control officers and they are keeping an eye out for me too.

Have you looked at Pet Adoption - Search dogs or cats near you. Adopt a Pet Today. Pictures of dogs and cats who need a home. Search by breed, age, size and color. Adopt a dog, Adopt a cat.

I love that site for adoption, but it makes me soooo sad! I just want to get them all. There is a 3 legged Yorkie girl, 3-4 years old named Penny. Just a little DOLL! I wish I could adopt her and just LOVE on her endlessly! Sadly (in a recent post I just did) my boys are VERY possessive of me and getting worse in their older age, I don't think I could get another dog, they would not take it well.

beachdog have you tried Rain Humane Society? They are out of Nassau county.
Also look up 9 C's Big Dog rescue on Facebok and like them. They too are local.
I see small poochies on there too. Not sure if I have seen yorkies lately.

Also not sure if Yorkie911 Rescue is local, I do see yorkies on there alot. You can find them on Facebook and like them also.

I am sorry you couldnt get the one I had. She is a cutie. Loves her new home. My neighbor is the one who actually got her. She had another yorkie and wanted a companion. They both fit well together.
