New puppy questions

Cute little pup. Every Yorkie has different hair. Ours is thin. You can try the things mentioned or just let the hair grow as it should under normal conditions.

As for food, that really depends on the puppy. We were all gung ho to get Bailey a bag of Blue Buffalo. He refused to touch the stuff. Even taking up his dish and later putting it down, he wouldn't eat it. We went to another place who gave us samples. When he dug in to one, we knew we had struck gold.

I add one teaspoon of coconut oil with their kibble, dry and I feed Fromm. They love it. I also add one teaspoon of yogurt in place of the coconut oil once a week. For shampoo I use Bio-groom products that are awesome. I also give them apples and carrots for treats.

My most recemt purchases of combs and a brush have been from topoflinepet.com as well. They are good quality and great prices. I purchased the small Maden brush and though I would like an even smaller brush this one works fine. I have the 4" comb for her face, head and legs and use a 6" comb for her body. I use combs more than anything else. I usually finish with the brush. Her fur is silky so I don't deal with a lot of tangles except in the ends occasionally. I find the comb works best for dealing with that.

There are as many opinions about food as there are owners. Personally, I feel that the closer you can move to what a dog would naturally eat the better off your pet would be, especially as it ages. Many of the grocery store or department store pet foods are very cheaply made with poor quality of ingredients. Some pet owners have gone to grain free and have had good results. Some feed raw while others swear by traditional foods. I would advise you to read up on foods and study ingredient lists and decide what is most important to you. Some people go to :

It does have a lot of information about ingredients that are in pet foods. I figure that if you cannot pronounce or even identify some of the ingredients on the bag of food it may be time to find out what your pet is actually eating.

I dont know if this is true and Im certainly no expert, but I read recently (sorry cant remember where) that sometimes puppies with thinner coats have the most beautiful coats as adults. My Jackson's coat is super thick and a little wavy on top and he is a little thinner on his head. I am going to give him Blue Chicken and Brown Rice for puppies. I bought the kibble but he isnt doing well with that yet...considering using the canned for puppies and then transitioning him to dry when he can handle it.

Please don't make too many dietary changes too soon... you are changing the food, and no doubt adding treats....wait befor e you add anything else new... 2 lbs is small...for big belly changes!!!

I was all concerned that Heff was balding on his head! Come to find out the top of his head had silver grey roots and black tips which was making him look bald! He is 11 weeks old, could it be Emma's is turning colors also? The rest of his coat is shiny thick, just the old noggin is turning silver! lol

Our Laddy went from a thin coat to a beautiful silky. It took him almost 2 years but it was worth the wait. I recently cut it quite a bit for summer but it is so easy to care for. I will post a picture for you.

I have always found that to be true. IF the coat is thinner it will turn into the beautiful silky coat. If you have the fluffy thick coat as a puppy chances are you are raising a cotton coat.
