My Lucy gets up when I do. I tend to agree with the other members here that if the puppy is in your bed, he'll likely be content to stay put longer. As soon as I get up, though, she MUST go out to do her business - even before me which I dare say is difficult. ![]() Also, I do believe that exercise during the day helps tire the pup out quite a bit. And with such a small dog, it's not all that much exercise either. During our last walk of the evening (about 10 pm) after Lucy goes, we RUN like the wind! Then, we come inside and play "get the squirrel' with her toy for a good 20 minutes. After that, she's pretty much zonked. A younger puppy also can't hold it as long either, so you should see some improvement over time. Maybe extend the time by not responding as soon as he whines so he gets used to a later time. Good luck. Tracey

Thanks for all your responses! Lennon is not crate trained, he sleeps in his bed in the kitchen in his playyard. We played and played with him yesterday so much to tire him out and he only slept until 4:30 this morning It was nice to hear that when he gets older we have a chance of him sleeping LOL! This morning he got up at 4:30 and he ate breakfast and went out, I played with him and he napped at 7:30 so I went back to bed, of course my 3 year old daughter got up 10 min later LOL!!!

It may just be that he's lonely. Could you re-locate his pen to your room? I have an ex-pen in my room - even though Lucy sleeps with me. Just in case I have to rush up for something, I have someplace to put her. If you don't want him in your room, maybe you should just let him whine a little bit so that he eventually learns the proper time to get up. BTW, never thought I'd put her in my bed. She snuggles next to me. However, sometimes she's content to just sleep at my feet. And I have a small travel bed in my bed with me. When I don't want her on top of me, I just move her to the travel bed a couple of times. She gets the idea quickly and curls up in the travel bed right next to me. Lets us both have some space. ![]() Anywat, good luck. Tracey | |

He is young and it actually sounds like he is doing pretty well for a pup. Could there be a neighbor or something making noise that could be waking him up at the same time every morning? If you can get him to sleep until 4:30 you are doing better than I ever did with training a dog to sleep someplace other than with me!

Lennon did sleep right next to us in the master bathroom with a gate across the door so he could see us and a nightlight. He has no problem going to sleep it's staying asleep in the early morning LOL! We put him in the kitchen to see if he would sleep longer and he has been a little better, this morning he got up at 5:15!
