| Whats the fastest way to cut your dogs nails Since i have had Bella i have been able to cut her nails twice, eve since she bites my hands moves like she is being killed crys. Of course i stop but there getting pretty long and when she jumps up on me she hurts my legs or arms. I have even tried putting a towel over her head to clam her down No luck, how do you all do it and what should i use. I would take her to the vet but they change between 20 to 40 to cut the nails and that is way to much for me to pay out. Any help would help me out a great deal. Thanks Angie

| I bet you are holding her on your lap, huh? I have found that to stand them in the tub and cut them there is very easy. Then I clean their ears, let them shake it out and give them a bath . Good luck, hope this works for you! |

| I usually do it after a bath when they are wrapped up in towels.. and I have someone help me to keep them somewhat distracted. I always reward with a treat when we are done- my oldest dog will let me do anything to her now, because she knows she will get a treat. |

| 20-40 bucks!!! That's insane! You might try just calling a groomer to have them do it. I takeChewy to a lovely lady and she does it in 2 minutes and charges $5. That's my only advice as I would NEVER be able to do it myself |

| OH~ I have tried and tried, all your hints... it's downright UGLY!! I took him to his groomer to just get his nails trimmed, since I'm letting his hair grow for winter. But... she had to get up on the table hold him, put one leg around him,, he was horrible!! I was amazed I thought it was just me. I asked is he always like that?? She said " Yes, but he's one of the better ones, I have ones that are alot worse." Dont worry, she is very good with him, and she didn't hurt him in anyway, I watched it all, in horror of how bad he was.

| Angie, Sounds like your baby is like mine when it comes to nails. Syd, who is good as gold for baths and haircuts, goes through the roof for nail trimmings. We have to muzzle her to do it. The major problem that we have is that she is a bleeder. No matter how small of an ammount we cut off...they bleed. And this is only making her more afraid of it. I just ordered a nail drummel set from PetEdge. These are supposed to work faster then clipping, they don't leave the super sharp nails that you have with clipping and they cauterize while they shorten...so you never have a bleeder. I'll let you know how they work once I get them. |

| I have the same problem cutting Gucci's nail, she turns into Cujo. I have tried wrapping her on a towel but she always squirms herself out. We have tried my son holding her but she tries to escape scratching us. I guess my next try will be trying when she is on the tub. |

| I found a place by Kroger's where I go every week anyway. I walked in there and asked them how much they would charge to trim nails. $5 I told him I would definitely be back. I just can't do mine even with my hubby holding them it doesn't matter where they are or what they are wrapped up in.

| Yeah my vet is pretty expensive, i am looking for a cheaper one as we type. Well i tried the tub and No Go, she juat ran around the tub like it was play time, I tried the towel and she got out and got very upset so i gave up, I did manage to cut one paw 3 to go lol. Thank you all for your responds i will keep trying as i am not paying 20 to 40 either, maybe i can get a groomer around here to do it cheaper. Will let you know. Angie

| nail clipping I am sitting here laughing because I have had the same problem with my Harley. He caught on after the first time I cut his nails. No I wait till he is sleeping hard on my lap and hold on paw at a time and one nail at a time. One night it took me 2 hours to do it. Thought I would go crazy. I almost have given up on it. | I stand my baby on a counter with a harness on her tethered with two leashes from two different directions so she can't move her body more than a couple inches in either direction. I also have a second person hold her steady as well so she can't flip over. Make sure you lift the foot gently and not too high so it's as comfortable as possible for the puppy. And the most important thing is once you have her foot in your grasp, do not let her pull the foot away from you. Once you let her win she will learn that all she has to do is struggle even harder and you will give up. Hang on until she stops pulling away and then let go and praise her (even if you never actually succeeded in clipping a nail). Or just take her to a groomer. Most will clip nails on a walk in basis for a small fee. Surprisingly most dogs behave better for a groomer than they do for their owners. |
