| New Puppy I will be getting a new baby in about a month. She will be almost 18 weeks, but she will be small and I would like to train her to go inside on potty pads and also to go outside when we are outside. Can I train her at the same time or should I work on potty pads and then later work on going outside? Also can you put a small crate inside a small canvas xpen and have room for him to move around? Thank alot. |

Imo , since she will be on the smaller side maybe training her to use the pads first will be better. The ex pen setup you suggest sounds perfect. It will keep her safe when you cant watch her.. | |

| Brandi uses the potty pads and goes outside. It took some time and patience. I started her going outside first but then again she was older when I got her. When the weather started getting colder, it was then that I decided to train her to use potty pads. Your baby is just a pup, I would probably start with potty pads first especially if she hasn't had all of her shots yet. I think it's the best of both worlds having Brandi use the potty pads and go outside. No having to get up at night to take her out to potty. |

| Thanks, it would be great if he is potty pad trained when we get him. The breeder did say she had potty pads in the X pen. I want to get him a crate and a canvas x pen to keep him safe. Getting nervous as I have always had females and do not know what to expect with a little boy. We currently have a female shih tzu who is very passive. I hope they will get along okay. I worry that the male may start marking and that would not be good. I will have him neutered at about 8 months as the breeder said she thought he needed to put on a little more weight than he will be at six months. Hopefully, he will not start marking before then. Any opinions? |
