Default Average cost of....?

I think this would be a great thread for perspective new owners looking to take on a Yorkie. It would give them a good idea how much beyond the cost of the dog they're looking at.

So, out of curiosity, how much do you pay for the following:

* Checkup/ initial vaccinations
* Spay/Neuter (specify
* Dental cleaning
* Dental extractions (ie: baby teeth)
* Annual wellness checkup and boosters

I did a thread like this where I added up everything I've spent.

Whew!

http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...vet-costs.html

In 3 years, I spent over $4000 on vet bills, check-ups, things of that nature. And he's been a pretty healthy dog, it's just the few things he needed done cost a LOT. Let's not even add in all the stuff I've spent on collars, harnesses, toys, food, etc. lol.

Off the top of my head, wellness checkup is $80per office visit. This doesnt include any bloddwork, heart worm tests, urinalysis, or boosters. His neuter costs $300+ including all pre-op, pain meds, I think I even asked for a urinalysis. I don't remember. His dental was just under $300. It's my fault really I didn't keep up with the regular maintanance. We are now. Those pearly whites are staying pearly and white.

Also, the what if's, need to be strongly considered before getting a pup.

Example....Zhoie's AAI, that alone was several thousand dollars. Plus all the regular care costs you all have stated above.

We never know when we get a pup, if something major will occur...however, a person does need to ask themselves and be honest with themselves....if that should happen, can I provide the proper medical treatment and care to this pup. If not, don't get the pup...it's just not fair to the dog.

That was a great post

I usally spend about 90 per vet visit at least twice a year
I spent about 150 for spaying
It cost about 160 just for dog food that was with only 2 dogs last year
I spend abou 200 for teeth cleaning
I spend about 250 on heart worm pills / flee and tic protection/ and other medication ER
I don't use boarders any more due to a bad experience but figure at least $30 per day per dog and extra if they are there over the weekend dog sitters cost even more
I spend about 200 to 300 for toys and outfits and other accessories
I spend about 40 a year for potty pads thank you Costco.
I spend about 45 a year for grooming products
If you use a groomer expect to spend about 60 to 100 per dog per visit. I now do not use them any mor i learned how to cut their hair and do the grooming myself
I usally plan for a minimal cost of 300 for sick visits and ER care
I know I am am forgetting something here!

I figured with just the basic care it will cost you about 1000 per dog not counting grooming, boarding, or ER visits. It is a huge expense if you provide just basic care

I just know it is expensive to properly care for any breed of dog or animal. Anyone thinking about buying or rescuing do need to know that it's expensive and it can be heartbreaking in some cases. But the love and devotion out way all of the costs.

Omg I can not even begin to add this all up.
6 dogs, initial vet visit 40.00 times 6
Spay and neuter 85.00 times 6
heartworm , flea meds 90.00 per month thats for all 6
dog food for one month is 176.00
office visits for check ups 40.00 times 6,,,not including any extras that may be needed
Lets talk Grooming,,,,I am lucky and found a great groomer who does all 6 of my dogs for 120.00 and this is every 6 to 8 weeks.
Sadie needs meds for seizures and they are 20 bucks a month.
and just think of all the little things that add up to so much,

Collars, leashes. bowls. beds. clothes (for some of us ). dog shampoo and smell good sprays lol, treats, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bows for their hair and so on and so on.

Yall know two months ago Sadie had to spend the night at the hospital, that little visit cost Momma 600.00. It is very expensive to keep a dog let alone 6 of them.

Lebalab Inc
Awesome is what they are

Dog Dental Care | Pet Oral Hygiene | Cat Tooth Cleaning Product

Check them out. Petzlife is for less stained and plaque covered teeth but Leba is for more severe situations. Like if you rescued a dog and it had some uncared for dental
