| Layered haircut? My groomer is recommending layering Mocha's hair for better management. Has anyone done that before? Does it look good? Is it true the coat is easier to manage and less likely to matte? Anyone has a picture? Thank you very much! |

| I have been with my groomer for a long time and dread the day that she retires, Yoshi and Miss Prissy is with her now...it's hard to find a good groomer. I say stay with who you like and trust.

| i think i can help maybe. Brew gets his hair cut in a layered style for the body - not the head really. my groomer cuts the hairs at the top of the back so they are only like and inch or less long....it goes down in little layers from there and then he has his skirt and legs longer. head is just a left long (shaped roundish) i'm hoping that these pictures will show it for you. it's hard when you have to make the pictures so small on this site, but hopefully you get the idea. if you pm me with your email address i can send you the full file and you can probabaly see it easier. it seems like actually a sign of a good groomer. it would take a lot longer to hand clip the layers in rather then just buzzing the body right off (unless that is the look you are going for of course, which does look cute on lots of other yorkies that i see on here) i think it just really helps their coat to not look so poufy. Brew doesn't have stick straight silky hair. i don't know if thats just because he is young (under a year), or he hair isn't long enough, or thats just the style, but it works for us. |

| I found information on layered haircut. Check this out!!! Yorkshire Terrier Information Center | Different Yorkie Haircut Styles Still not sure if I want this or not. I think you guys have convinced me to stay with Nikki even with the longer drive. I'll go ask her what she thinks of the layered haircut. Looking at this, I think Mocha is layered already. |

| My groomer wanted to layer Gracie and I said no. It took me so long to get her mostly one length after the groomer I took her to during her first year of life I could not imagine messing it up. I guess it depends on your dog's hair type. Gracie has silky fur with no under coat. When her first groomer "layered" her behind when she was a puppy it made her look like she had frilly under wear on. |

| Why did she recommend the layering? If it is because he gets hot and you don't want to shave him down then I agree with her that layering is a good alternative. Lola is mixed with Pom, she looks more yorkieish but with a beautiful heavy coat and a really big full tail. I groom her myself, (LOL trial and error) My husband wanted her to be cut down but I could no bear the thought of it, so I started experimenting with the layering, just like someone said I pull the top part up and just use thinning shears, I wind up taking off a lot of hair that for her she seems to be cooler, but she still looks full and a moderately long. But she has the type of hair that lets the layers blend in and you don't notice it. I on the other hand have thin hair and I think layers would be very noticeable. I also shave her underneath which you can not see. So depending on what type of hair your dog has and if he needs to be cooler should be the things you consider before making a radical change
