Should I allow my yorkie to sleep with me??? Okay, so I know there are certain concerns like me rolling over on the little guy, I understand that and would never want to hurt him, but outside of that, I was also wondering if it would mean he will need to sleep with me forever! lol. Some days I may want my bed to myself, and at some point I will be sharing my bed with my spouse.....just wanted to know what you all do. I just would hate to put him in his kennel at night when I could be giving him that one on one time. |
all three of mine sleep with me. cedric has since we brought him home and he was tiny but for me it was like when i had my daughter. i woke up to be sure he was safe all night! haha. now everyone has there spot and we sleep the night away. i am trying to talk dh into a king bed next! |
once they start snuggling you woill never not want them there once your ready to sleep. They are awsome snugglers and they find their spot. Both of mine were in from day 1. |
Once you do it there is no turning back.:) They will sleep with you always. My Rocco has been sleeping with me since he was 5 months old. At first you will get up all night long to make sure he is ok. Rocco crawls under the blankets and sleeps in the same spot all night.. |
Ours sleep w/ us. However, they are trained to also sleep off the bed. They don't cry when they are sleeping off the bed but always prefer the bed if given the opportunity. |
It's really the only way, isn't it??? :D Jack sleeps with us - he usually starts out snuggled up next to my hubby and then snuggles up next to me at some point during the night. Jack has been sleeping with us since about day 7 after we had him - maybe sooner. And he does have his own little bed on the floor too that he sleeps in but he loves sleeping in the bed with us. |
My two have always slept with us and we haven't had any problems. I think it's all personal preference... If you don't want them sleeping with you forever, I wouldn't allow it. My two would not be happy sleeping on the floor, and that's one of the reasons we couldn't have anymore dogs :p I need my space when I sleep, so anything more than two on our king bed would be TOO crowded. |
Teegy decided one day that he was sleeping with me, I have no problem with that and when I got Tufty he slept in his carrier for a week and after he had mastered the pet steps, he was sleeping on the bed too. I read all kinds of stuff about it and you know what it comes down to you and your dogs. They seem happy and content sleeping by my head together on the other pillow so that makes me happy and if they choose to snuggle in the middle of the night that makes me happy too. |
I am a new Yorkie owner. For me I can't have the little one sleep with me. I know that I go on vacations and she will need to stay with others. She can snuggle in bed with me, but then she goes to her bed. She can go stay with my mom, my friend or my neighbor who has a Yorkie. If she only sleeps with me then this might be very traumatic. With that said, I am on night three of "tough love" She is in her kennel with toys and her bed, and she is learning that that is where she is going to sleep. The first night she barked, wined, cried and shook the kennel all night, each night has gotten a bit better. I am home with her all day most days, only leaving for two hours or so. |
Ahi sleeps with us on my bed. She also has her own bed that is leveled with mine so sometimes she will walk right on over to her own bed and sleep. :) the main thing is she is in the room with me. :) |
I like Callie to sleep in her own bed because I am over weight and would crush her her I rolled on her plus I move a lot in my sleep. I also don't want her jumping onto the bed a hurting her leg/knee. Callie has a very comfy soft crate with a thick pad in it, a heating pad thing for dogs, a very soft blankies, and a little pillow she likes to lay and cuddle up to. I also keep my room cold so I like her to have a place where the fan won't blow on her. Another thing is her crate folds flat so I can take it with us if we travel. |
Our dogs have slept with us since day one. I like it and it works for us. If you start having the dog sleep with you, it will probably be kind of hard to break, but not impossible I suppose. It's really a personal preference. Oh, did I mention they like to snuggle real close and tight!!!! lol |
Well you are engaged and therefor should consider your spouse's wishes as well. I do feel it is hard to break the habit of a dog sleeping with you, once you start that. None of our dogs sleep on our beds. They do how-ever get cuddle times on the bed, and then our Yorkie is put into his comfy crate, and the big dogs sleep on the floor. Really it is up to you and your spouse how you would like to proceed. |
CoCo can sleep with me if she wants or in her bed - it's her choice. She is fine sleeping in either place. I have noticed that if she knows I'm not 100% she will sleep in the bed with me. Sometimes she starts out in my bed and ends up in hers. As long as she's happy & comfy, I'm happy. |
Both Georgie and Coco sleep with us and sometimes our 4 year old skin son:D When Georgie gets up and gets in his bed (once in a blue moon) I wake up and worry if he's ok. I think the most important thing is finding a spouse who loves dogs then you can all sleep in the same bed LOL |
all of my dogs sleep in their own bedtime crate. we have a yorkie 7 lbs., a shih tzu 13 lbs. , an airedale terrier 85 lbs. |
It is personal preference....I love my babies up in my bed...I have a ramp, so no jumping up and down.....but mine are all grown....I did not let them sleep with me when they were puppies, too afraid they would walk off or fall out of the bed and I have stained concrete floors....they would kill themselves if they fell out of the bed. But once you start it, they are like kids....it will be hard to break them of it! I dont have to travel anymore, but when I did, it was not a problem...my cousin kept them and they knew at HERE house, they slept in their crates. |
We started Copper in crate by my side of the bed. I took the door off long ago and he still sleeps in his crate at night unless it is a really cold night. He then hops on the crate and then to the bed to snuggle under the covers with me. Which ever he prefers is fine with me. I do move a lot, so he usually goes to the crate. |
Having dogs sleep in your bed is a personal choice, it has it's pros and cons. We currently have two sleeping with us but it does have its problems. My Dixie is almost 16 years old and she will no longer go up and down the steps by our bed because she is going blind. She usually will need up once during the night to go pee so she will just do a quiet little bark to let me know she wants down. I will get up with her then put her back in bed when she is done. Also, it can get challenging when you want to get intimate with your mate. Lol, yorkies don't like being booted out of bed for that. My hubby always said that yorkies make good birth control. Then there is the concern about having them fall off the bed. That happened to us a few times over the years but luckily none ever got hurt. Over the years I have let different ones sleep with us. I think the most we had sleeping with us at one time was 5. Unfortunately, a few yorkies that I would let sleep with us decided it was okay to pee on the bed so sadly those got banned from the bedroom. Good luck to you whatever your decision might be. |
Does everyone use steps for them to get up and down off of the bed. Our king size bed is so high off the ground we are afaird that they will wake up during the night and walk off of it and get hurt because of the height. Prissy has started to jump out of the playpen so now we have that to worry about, so what is the best advice sleep with or remain in their own beds. |
My 2 yorkies and 2 cats sleep with us on our king size bed. I have a little ottoman type thing at the foot of the bed that they use to jump up. They each have their own dog bed at the foot of my bed but more often than not I find them tucked up against my legs. We love having all our critters sleep on the bed with us - they're great snugglers! |
Hello Welcome I from Bear Delaware and I let Brandi sleep with me. In fact, it's weird if I wake up and she's not in bed with me. |
All three of our Yorkies sleep with us and our Jack Russell as well...we would not have it any other way. :D |
I can't imagine NOT sleeping with a dog - it's second nature to me. I love Jackson in my bed and wouldn't have it any other way, he's been there since a small pup. I am single, but when the day comes that I have a permanent spouse, they will have to be accepting of it. No questions asked. I wouldn't date a guy that forced me to kick him off the bed, lol. But it's different when your in a situation where the guy was first, and the dog came second... so it's just preference. |
I know everyone else is saying the opposite, but I have had no problem switching Eevee between sleeping in the bed and sleeping in the crate. Sometimes if she won't poop before bed, or just won't settle down and sleep, I put her in her crate to prevent problems. She's pretty happy as long as she has a bed and a chew toy in there. Most nights, though, she sleeps between my feet. |
I LOVE my babies sleeping with me!! They each have their own "spot" and cuddle up against me!! If im ever gone for the night, its hard to fall asleep without them!!! |
Thank you all so much for your responses, I read every last one of them! I will be getting my baby boy in 10 days, and more than likely, he will be sleeping with me:) He is so cute! xoxo |
lol, i do understand your concern about a bf/spouse. but i look at it like this: if you love me, i need for you to take me as i come, just as i will take you exactly as you are. I mean if i date a guy who has children, i will love his children as my own, i expect you to love my baby too. There are so many happily married people on here who have wonderful, accepting partners, i know i will find that too:) |
Only share your bed with your Yorkie if you're ok with sleeping on a 8"x8" corner of the mattress. I don't know how they do it, but these little dogs manage to get the whole bed and somehow, I'm just ok with that. Last night, I even lost custody of my pillow. |
