| Introducing myself and new baby girl Hope! Hi! I'm a first time puppy owner (actually first time dog ever). We brought home our little girl Hope yesterday and she is 9 weeks old. I instantly fell in love though I have to admit I'm a bit nervous because I've never had a puppy before. She was use to be around at least 8 yorkies since she's from a breeder who is home all the time. I'd like to crate train her and not have her sleep in my room at night. She was wonderful all day yesterday but cried most of the night when she didn't see me. As soon as I'd walk into the room she'd stop crying. Any advice on how to get her use to being alone at night? Thanks so much! |

| It took My Norman 2 nights to settle down. He sleeps right through till I get up with the kids now. I know its heartbreaking hearing her cry for you but be patient..Just give her lots of huggles when you see her.. My Norman wags his tail so hard in the mornings its a wunder it doesnt fall off. |

| It took Abby quite a few nights to settle down and her crate was right next to Ziva's. The first night Ziva responded to Abby's crying (it was crazy) but after that Ziva kept so quiet, we took our cue from her and didn't respond to the fussing. Now Abby is 10 months and I say "nitenite time" and they go running to their "cribs"- of course a little treat helps! |

| Hi and welcome to Yorkie Talk! I think it will take a few nights or a week to let her settle in properly. If you just reassure her that you are coming back and then she will see that you do, it will get better. Start off with the crate in your room and slowly move it more and more away. Also a favorite stuffed toy and treat will help. It will get easier and better.

| hi there. and welcome to yt. from what i have read on here and other places, you should not go to them when they are crying because they quickly learn that that is is the way out of the crate. she should realise that you are serious and settle into her sleeping space soon (p.s i gave up on this night1,lol)

| Why cant you put her crate in your room where she can see you? I would cry to if I was alone after leaving all my sibblings and my mom.
