| can a two year old yorkie's ears be made to stand? can a two year old yorkie's ears be made to stand? More importantly is there a way to do so that won't bother or hurt him? |

| I doubt it. I got Cozy at 6 months and tried for a few months to get them to stand up but never could- Her ear cartilage was not strong enough from lack of training at the breeders. I love her floppy, 1/2 mass eared girl (They go up halfway when really excited- They stand out from her head with the tips still flipped over.). I trained all of her kids ears to stand up and all of her offspring have stand up ears.

| I love DJ with all my heart and I like the look of him floppy too, I was just curious as to whether or not a dog his age could have their ears made to stand and if the process was painful. He comes first, well before cosmetics. |

| I don't think so. I think it has to be done when they are pups. Floppy ears are cute mine has them and I love them.

| I know they train the puppies ears with tape and such but I haven't heard of anyone trying with an adult dog. And no I don't think it would hurt them.

| Bella is a floppy ear girl too. I say it makes her look like a little blonde chick. Love it, but I would like to have one with stand up ears also. |

| I appreciate the responses. I am not going to try to make his ears stand. I love him as he is and always will. I am getting ready to post some pics here shortly. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Wylie had standing ears as a pup for awhile, and then they flopped...and I tried taping and stuff. They were up for a while, and now he's one up, one down. Pfeiffer came to us w/ her ears all proper and up....and then, I swear to God, bc she loves Wylie so much - she decided to copy his one up, one down. They have the opposite ear up, and opposite ear down...so it's like they're balanced together.

| You could always shave the upper third of the ears and that will make them lighter and they might stand up a bit more. That is what I've always done.

| To Floppy or Not Gracie is 3 years old. If I shave her ears they stand (texbook, picture) perfect. If her ear hair gets longs they start to flop. If this is the reason your dogs ears flop, fine shave them. But, if they just are too thick and flop naturaly, I would leave them alone. I think floppy ears are fine just like full hairy tails are fine too.
