Help! Yorkie has thin smooth hair.

Most breeders I know are meticulous about there records. They can show you both parents' AKC records/pedigrees, health clearances, proof of vaccination for parents if they have both and puppies, records from litter vet. appt.,etc. It is a packet of papers- Including paperwork for new owner to complete registration with AKC (normally limited- not full registration) and contact to sign.

You're right!! I thought a silky was a lighter colored yorkie (tan and grey coloring). I thought Yorkies were only tan and black not knowing that the black coloring changed to grey as they got older.

I have to agree with the OP - I have never seen full bred yorkies that dark in the face before. But I must admit, your pup is sure adorable!!!!

But couldn't anyone register their dog with the AKC?? I read somewhere that some news channel was registering cats as pure breed dogs (I guess falsifying info) as an experiment. It costs $$$ to register them and any business likes selling their "wares" and making $$$.

true, but yorkie puppies sell for more money than silky puppies, even with Full AKC registrations, people want the 3 pound yorkie not the 9-11 pound silky. I know a girl who had a litter of MORKIES at the same time I had my oops litter of silkies, belive it or not she sold her little cute mutts for more money than mine, because she used a 5 pound maltese and a 4 pound yorkie, so i decided to sell them for less money registered with a lesser registry, I am having moral issues with AKC, so I am not breeding for a while. this is my last litter, I had my breeding pair fixed,so no more oops litters either. I am done I can't deal with AKC anymore. They do have a lot of Good breeders but also a lot of BAD ones..

I agree. I was new to the whole puppy buying experience...I couldn't tell the difference between the two types of dogs. I love the pup but maybe I need to take her to small claims court so that she does not try this again. From pictures my puppy does look like a mix. Still just as lovable just not a purebred yorkie. :-(

I assumed it would be the opposite. Silky Terriers are rare, and rare usually means more valuable.

Is the Silky coat the same as that of a silky-coated Yorkshire Terrier?

You can't buy your way into AKC but there are lots of other registers you can.

it was supposed to be that way but not in the era of the tea cup and the micro tea cup, names that the non ethical breeders use and people fall for.
and the coats are similar but different, the yorkie coat is a bit denser and floor leght, the silky terrier is less dense and only to the top of the feet without touching the floor.

But if people are buying the teacups and the micros don't they exist?? Even if they tend to be less healthy they are still here.

yes, they are buying them because the breeders keep breeding the tiny females at the risk of loosing them, so as long as people pay the top dollar for those tiny dogs unethical breeders will continue to breed them.
