| Dog & grass I know I need to seed the lawn it hasn't been done in years and we've removed a lot in the last couple years... but on top of that the dogs have made trails around the perimeter of the house and fence line as well to their potty spot. Anyone have a preferred grass seed? Preferred grass or lawn treatment? I'm looking for something obviously safe for dogs and kids to play on, I heard Scott's turf builder was good but thought people here might actually have more expertise than the random garden center college student employee.

| Nobody? Seriously you can't by sheer luck have perfect yards...or gardeners.

| I went to my local home depot and measured the sod pieces. After school today my son and I dug up the part of the yard that we are going to re-sod. With my big dog we re-seeded the yard in sections, and the dogs could not go on that part until it had re-established. I would check with where you are going to buy the seed and talk to the staff to see what would be best in your area. |

| Look for seed that says it's good for high traffic areas. Wish I could be of more help. |

YT 1000 Club Member | Well, I love to do manual work (when I am done with my brain work) and one spring I decided to treat my own lawn for weeds. Needless to say it was a disaster! I burnt tracks into the grass where the treatment was applied too heavily. The lawn care service spent weeks to get everything back to normal and since then I have left lawn care to the experts.

| Having recently bought a house in Florida with an HOA the lawn is cared for by a professional company. The other day I noticed blue pellets / fertilizer on my lawn and called the lawn company immediately to find out what it was. He said its ammonium sulfate fertilizer which is safe for dogs. He has dogs and has been using it or years. I'm still researching how safe it is. My boys haven't been and wont be spending much time outside until I conclude it is safe.

| Dang it! Well our lawn guy is going to love this-he offered but after seeing his costs I was like no, no I'll try it myself-he smiled and said okay well call me later if you need any help... he mows the front and does the annual trimming twice a year. I don't let him in the back yard anymore it's too hard to get him to come on a schedule and for safety I have pad locks on the back gates and really don't trust anyone to ensure my dogs won't get out. So I went and looked at buying sod...$2800 to re-sod the back yard only!!!! That doesn't include the ripping up and flattening out and the treatments you have to give sod to get it to lay down in the first two weeks. I could just fill with sod right-but that's like when you spill and wipe it and realize you just made a clean spot on the floor Can you imagine a few perfect squares of grass and then the rest becomes so apparently hideous. This stinking crab grass and the super long shoots that crop up is so annoying...wow you know your inner child is just about dead when you are excited to be getting things like sod and grass seed! I think I'm going to try this and in a month I'll probably be posting about having called the lawn guy to come fix it all... If you don't feed kibble with added vitamin K just be sure that no dehydration (excessive water intake or signs of dehydration) occur obviously along with vomiting etc. Our local dog park uses these blue green fertilizer pellets maybe the same stuff-I'm sure they are more than safe if they are using them at the dog parks and have been for years-but good job momma for making double extra sure.

| I prefer St. Augustine grass as it is so luxurious looking and you can buy it in sod. Ours "took" pretty fast when we first had it put in and it is wonderfully cusion-like to sit on. It does grow awfully thick & fast though. It takes quite a big dog a lot of trips to wear a path in it.

| Since we live in different climate zones, what works here may not be best for you. I would visit HD or Lowes and carefully read the seed bags to find what fits your specific yard (full sun/dense shade/etc).

Jack and Josie love the new sod, it almost feels like carpet. It's nice and fluffy. It's called palmetto grass, good for shaded areas with some sunlight. It wasnt cheap either, lol. | |
