| This really makes me sad ! I like to surf the web checking out Yorkshire Terrier breeders just for fun. I like to see all the different web pages and pictures. Today I came across this one site, can't remember the name, but this person was breeding Yorkies and every cross you could think of. Don't get me wrong I love all dogs including mix breeds but I do understand why people do this on purpose when there are millions of dogs , purebred and mixed, euthanized on a daily basis because there are no homes for them. What is worse these "breeders" are charging up to $1500.00 for these dogs and people are buying them. Isn't that a travesty?........ |

| its actually genius cause in reality the dog is a mutt. but to each his own. my cousin got a shorkie and although shes adorable i would much rather have my yorkie. the personality is just so well awesome. i dont think ill ever go with another breed now that ive had a yorkie! well unless theres a mixed rescue of course. =*(())

| I have no idea how they get away with it in the US,because here, mixed breeds are considered mutts, nothing more, and people dont charge for them, they give them away (unless they can trick you into thinking you are buying a purebred). I dont even understand how you can sell a mixed breed for that rediculous amount of money and justify it´s value. You never even have a garantee of what the puppy will look like as an adult. It doesnt matter what two breeds make the puppy, the result is still a mix, there for,it´s value should be waaaaaaaaaay lower than a purebred (if they´re going to charge you at all). I also dont get why it´s done on purpose.A breeder cant "invent" a breed..slap a fancy, made up name on a mutt, and charge you a huge amount of money for it. It´s rediculous.

| Some people buy a puppy like they do a pair of shoes or a fancy handbag. They pay a large amount for a trendy dog (small and cute). They don't realize a living being is very different than a fashion accessory !

| I agree. Marketing genius. Unless you are purposely, scientifically, and knowledgably breeding for a new unique distinctive breed, as man has done for eons to create the breeds we have today, I don't see the point in mixing any breed of dog.

A woman close to where I live mixed her long haired chihuahua with her yorkie, and the pups were very cute..so much so,that she kept one. Well, let me tell you that that puppy grew up and it was U G L Y (tufts of long hair here and there, shorter undercoat, long legs, long thin snout etc)..so by the time it was 15 months old,it was roaming the streets When you buy a pure bred, you know (or have a VERY good idea) of what the adult version will look like, what the breeds traits are and what you´re bringing home..with a mix,you dont know what you´re getting. Dont get me wrong,I have owned a mix breed (he was a Great dane/golden retreiver mix named Duke),he was BEAUTIFUL and had the best personality, but there´s no way I´d have payed say, what a great dane or golden retreiver costs for him kwim?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The really sad thing is that many people know you shouldn't buy from a pet store, breeders who sell to a pet store have to be commercial breeders and some are puppy mills. However, the breeders who sell over the internet don't even need a liscense. Some of the worse puppymills you can imagine are from breeders who sell directly to the public. Regarding mixes, they can be stunning, it's just there is no way to predict what the adult will look like or how it will behave. With purebreds we can do this, but only if your going to a good breeder. That's the problem, and a person thinks they are buying a Yorkiepoo and it will resemble their cousin's dog and it looks nothing like it, so it might wind up in the pound. At one time there was a shortage of dogs, but not any more, it's not right that we kill thousands of dogs while byb's and puppy millers continue to breed more.
