Maybe like "roi" in French? I could never pronounce that one either! "je suis la roi!"

I'd not worry my pretty little head about it, though. lol One of my biggest peeves is watching cooking shows and the 'chef' pronounces jalapeno (hall-ah-pay-yno) 'hall-ah-pee-yno". I love spicy chilis! But, they're supposed to be the food 'experts' and can't get it right...I wonder if I want to eat their cooking? lol

Maybe it's my long ago past HR work...I just feel it best to say things like people's names correctly for the language, if possible. My own former last name was butchered so often I could always tell they meant me by the rude utterances sounding nothing like the name...even by people like doctors office staff who saw me weekly during pregnancy. I always said it for them...they just never bothered to try to get it right. 'Course, our own 'language' is such a mish-mash of other languages that lots of our words have more than one pronunciation, so...no wonder we're confused! :rolleyes::p:D

I was just talking to bf about this! We always joke around and say the line from Napoleon Dynamite, "Make yourself a dang kay-sa-dill-a!" LOL So he went to El Pollo Loco and ordered the tortilla roll as a tor-till-a roll, instead of tor-tee-ya! LMAO! Then we went off joking around, "can I get a tor-till-a roll with pike-o de gal-lo, and ha-la-peen-yos. :D

I know what you mean about last names. My own maiden name was a mouthful, but nothing like my poor husband's family had to go through. Seems like a lot of people (especially nurses for some reason) thought that "Van Damme" sounded too much like a curse word at the time, lol! Thanks to Jean-Claude, now its not so mispronounced!:D

:sidesplt: We call them Qua -Saddle- a's :D:D:D and Tomy -till-a's (tomatillos)

I still feel silly saying Biva :rolleyes:;)

I pronounce them Tricolored Yorkie or German Parti version ahaha joke (kinda).

I love that I'm not the only one that thought it was Beaver heavy on the Ver at first!

I say Bee vehr now but I've heard Biva too.

I took the enunciation I heard form a German considering they are named from a German sir name so I'm erroring a German would say it correctly.

Watch I'm wrong oh well...

Since there are so many different dialects in Germany and words spelled the same are pronounced different in different parts of the country I wonder how they all pronounce it lol :p I lived there 3 years and I knew about the V for W I just didnt put it together

Exactly! Just like in the US, we have different dialects here too. How a New Yorker says "water" is not the same as a Californian.
