I will use his collar for the times he's running around without his Buddy Belt on. I would never attach a leash to it though.....

Lucy does not wear a collar. I would love for her to wear a pretty collar with a little charm on it.

When I first brought her home ~ she would try to bite the collar and end up getting the collar stuck in her mouth; then she would panick and so would I :). So I took the collar off and never put it back on.

Perhaps she has matured a bit and I could try again. She is always walked with a harness and I would never walk her with a collar.

Fenway does wear a collar in the house with a bell on, so we know where she is with being so small. She usually wears a harness outside with her dog tags on when going for a walk. She has also been micro chipped.:aimeeyork
It's something i've done right from the beginning as she didn't take to walking with the collar and lead idea.

Georgie doesn't wear a collar. I know he should but he literally is never out of anyones sight. When we are at work he is at his grandparents house. We both have fenced in yards, and stand out there with him and his Boxer sister. I think I am going to get him a collar and put it on him when we go for walks.

My Quincy use to do that too when he was younger. I sat there one day and watched him do it, he would sit there and do it "on purpose".... I thought to myself what a dumbass, this dog is nuts! He would get it caught and then chew threw them. Each time he chewed through one I would tighten the next one, but he still managed to get his jaw stuck in it. We must have went through 6-8 collor before he finally stopped around the time he turned 2.

I couldn't figure out why he is doing it, and than I figured out that it was the tags. He didn't like them toughing his chest. But I wasn't gonna take them off, what if he came up missing. He got over it but it tool a while.


No, never had that problem.

You may think they are never out of your sight but they can get out of opening doors and some find away out of fences. And what if is grandparents don't watch him as good as you? Accidents happen that's why there called accidents and I would rather be prepared for that then not prepared and my dog be without id. Callie has never been left alone before ever but when she was a pup she would dash out the door and once got out of the fence. My grandpa watches Callie a lot and although she is trained not to go out the door or fence you never know what might get there senses and they might go after they are terriers and I know my grandpa loves Callie to death and would do anything in the world for her but he is slower then me and could never chase her if she got out and was running.

People change dogs names all the time I'm not sure having there name on the tag makes that much of a difference.

True but it gives me peace of mind knowing that it will make it ten times harder on the person who finds them and chooses not to do the right thing by returning my babies back home to their family.

I put colers on all 5 of mine for tages only.My tags are the rab. and a tag with phone # address dog name. I would die if one of my babies got lost. Only take off for baths or preeting up. Never pull on the coler ,or tug to get your yorkie . Again only for tags. I use harness and lish for walks.I have A yard well finced up at the front of the house we have fince on both sides can let them go and be right their. They never go out with out me.

That's exactly what Mercer does but I didn't even have tags on becausea I
just wanted her to get use to the collar. She does this with the harness also so that is only on for walks then taken off. I keep trying. She litteraly cant get away at this point because I am at my Mom's and she is kept gated off unless I am on top of her, because my mom's dog is quite a bit bigger then her. When I go home beginning of May she will have more free run of the house. She is micro chipped. I just don't know what to do because I can't have her choking herself.

Agreed that's why I said I know he should and we will be getting him a collar.

Thats good that she is micro chipped, that is added protection if she should ever get out and lost. I wouldn't worry so much about putting a collar on her since you use the harness for walks. Be sure to take it off when you get home so that she doesn't chew through it or leave it on and use correction commands to stop her from chewing it.

But if you are set on having her wear one... than tighten it as tight as you can get it. (that is what I had to do with Quincy) Just be sure to check it each week to see if it needs loosen as she grows. Eventually she will get use to it or give up trying to get it off.

So I bought a new cat breakaway collar and it was on her with barely one finger spacing. After about 15 minutes my Mom's dog is off hiding eating Mercer's news collar. I got it back and put it back on Mercer and ten minutes later Mercer had it off chomping on it. I tightened it a little more (quite worried about that) and she got it off again. I'll keep trying but she surprises me how she can get it off or stuck in her mouth. I've never had that happen before with any other dog, she is my smallest dog.
