Does your dog wear a collar? Does your dog wear a collar? Riley has his Buddy Belt that I have his ID tag on. I have his dog license and rabies tags on my key ring, since they are both Gigantic..... and he is never outside without me. I only put his Buddy Belt on him when we are going out for walks.... so other than that, he is running around with nothing.... which is only inside. My niece came to visit and thought it odd that he wasn't wearing a collar. |
Mina wears her collar/necklace,her tags hang on it as well as a tiny bell. This is how I know where she is. All of the dogs (5) wear collars and tags, each one sounds different. Nobody can sneek into a room they dont belong in. |

Jack didn't even own a dog collar until recently. One of the posts I read was about a yorkie that had gotten out of the house and was missing. His "mom" was frantically looking for him and some of the posts said something about his collar and tags - if someone found him, they would hopefully call and return him. Missing yorkie's mom stated she didn't have a collar or tags on him so no one would know who he belonged to. It was that post that made me go get a collar and tag for Jack - he's not a fan of it - went almost 3 years without a collar, but I wanted him to have some kind of ID on him. We have not yet had him microchiped - I didn't think about it when he was neutered - my vet said because he is so small, she would rather do his microchip while he is under anesthesia and I don't want him to undergo that unless there is some other reason - like a dental but his teeth have been really good - so we are waiting. Anyway, he now wears a collar, just in case he sees a squirrel outside and decides to chase it.... (we are always with him outside but he doesn't always have a leash on) |
When I got Ralph I knew I needed to micro chip him, and the grooming/dog boutique I worked out said hey when you send his papers in just get the micrchip sent to you and do it yourself and I thought omg I just scan something put it on his collar...then it arrives with a needle and all this other stuff. So they did it while he was under getting nuetered as he was about 3 lbs at the time |
collars All six of mine usually have there collars with id's on them all of the time. But, I just gave them all baths and did not put them back on. Thank you for reminding me. They will back on in the morning. Without fail. |
Well, I think it comes without saying that I have a bit of a collar addiction! LOL. So yes he's almost always wearing a collar. I take it off for comfort at night though. |
No. Never. ID Tags on D-Ring of harness, and microchipped to boot-considering ID tattoos. If I did use a collar on my dogs (which I won't) I'd use a cat break away collar. |
my dogs are all microchipped but no collars. they all have all the necessary tags which they wear when on walks but not in the house. my reason: years ago i had a minature pinscher who always wore collar and tags even in the house. one night i came home from work she was on the sofa choking and gagging , i ran to her and noticed that somehow she had managed to entangle the tags in the weave of the sofa material. no idea how long she had been like that. scared me to death to think what i could have found if i returned home any later. so no collars & tags in the house |
Gracie wears a collar with her ID tag and a bell. When she was a puppy she would always try to get out the door when someone would open it. She left with the cable guy once. She is micro chipped but I decided it would be an added help if she ever did get away. If someone did find her they could find our phone number quicker than a chip. Thankfully she hasn't gotten out in quite some time but I'm not taking any chances. The bell helps me to locate her inside. |
Some people use the break away cat collars for their dogs to prevent choking. So many dogs get separated from their owners every year. It just makes sense to cover all the bases as far as making sure our pets make it home in the event that something unusual were to happen. |
no morgan just has his buddy belt and he is microchipped |
Mine wear collars for the noise too. two tags jingle so I know where to step and when they stand up on the bed so I can set them down. |
My dogs wear collars 24/7. They come off for baths or when wearing e collars. |
Mine do not wear collars in the house. They do have their harness' which have all the tags on them when we go out. There is no way at all that mine can out of the house without me knowing. I am always outside when they are, they are never left alone outside. They can't get at the front door if the doorbell rings. Mine are also Micro Chipped. |
All 5 of mine have a collar on for their ID tags, never to walk on we have harnesses for that, |
Kiko wears a harness when we go out for a walk. She is microchipped and wears a collar with an ID tag. Her rabies tag and tag that came with the microchip are on her leash. When she was little, I would have to take her collar off at night and before I left the house because she would try and chew on the tag and would sometimes manage to get the collar in her mouth. Once it was in her mouth, she couldn't get it back out. She stopped doing that before she turned 1. Now she has her collar on almost all of the time except bath time. |
Sheldon wears a collar 24/7 unless when taking a bath. It has his id tag, rabies tag and insurance tag. I love to hear him jingle when he walks or run :) |
Thanks All!! He can't get out, at home, without me.... or my knowledge. I am up on the 5th floor of a condo building in the city. But I am thinking I might need to get him a collar for when we travel.... like when we go to my parents or friends houses, where he could easily slip out the front door. In those instances, we always start with his Buddy Belt on, but I always end up taking it off once we get there. I need to either leave the buddy belt on, or get him a collar with his tag on it. One of the reasons I haven't got one for him yet is that fear that he will get caught on something. I'll check out the break-away collars. |
Mine wear collars and I just got them new ones. Miss Priss's collar is all blinged out with her name and tags, Yoshi's is a manly one with his tags too. I have worried in the past about the dangers of the collars but mine could so easily slip out by accident and I'm not taking any chances. |

ZoE hasn't ever worn a collar (neither did my last yorkie). She is microchipped. I regret not getting an identification tattoo also done at the time she was spayed, and will probably do that at her first needed dental. I do worry about her accidently getting out of the house, even though that would require 3 doors being left open for her to gain outdoor access....but still I worry. |

Please consider using a collar all the time. There was even a story about a burglary in a high rise where a Yorkie was stolen. About a month ago, in Chicago a DJ was searching for there lost Yorkie. He was being watched while the she was out of town. He slipped out of the fence and they looked for him almost a week. The story ended tragically and my heart broke. :( |
I would never have mine without a collar its way to risky for me so many dogs have gotten out with no collar on and were never returned and accidents of them getting out can always happen even when you think you make it impossible. Callie wears a collar with her id tag and rabies tag all the time. I had thought about taking her rabies tag off her collar but I like the jingle, if she did get out I would want people to know she is vaccinated and it has the vets number on there so that's a great second number if they cant get mine to work. I grew up with dogs and we have had goats too and all have had a collar on with a id tag and we have never had any problems. |
I have break away cat collars on Yorkies. I used to have a small jimgle bell on each collar...then one day, I cam back from running errands, and Lexee had managed to get a toe nail on her back foot, hung up inside the slit on one of those dad gum bells....she had been contorted in that awful position, with her hind foot hung up in a bell on her neck....I had to rush her to the vet and he used a bone instrument to cut that bell apart to free her toe! From that day on, bells came off, and break away cat collars were ordered. Each collar is personalized with dogs name and my phone number, and rabies tag. |
Collar wearer here too. His has a bell because someone likes to sneak into rooms he shouldn't be in by himself and cause havoc! (*sarcastically* Yay for dumpster divers.... his is a cat breakaway collar which stays on better than most people think, and will only fall off when it really needs to. If you want the gingle noise without the bell, you can add metal charms to the collar. Kaji has an ID tag, and a small charm with his initial on it. It's super cute! |
Bailey wears a collar. At PetSmart we had a tag made with rivets so it mounted on the collar. It was very easy to install and makes no noise when he follows me like a shadow 24/7. |

I wouldn't ever have a dog without a collar. They can get out so quickly, and I want to know that I did everything possible I could to get my dog back to me. My foster Shelly escaped a couple weeks ago in a spot that I didn't think she could get out of. We were outside with her, but had our backs turned... and she was gone. She made it a block away before someone caught her and called my cell phone because she was wearing a collar. I was already walking the street, but they were able to contact me without going to a vet to scan her (they may not even know to do this). |
Louie wears a collar and tags always. When we go for a walk he has a harness on but the collar still stays on. Would not have it any other way. |
