| Size of Harnesses? Hello all! I'm new here so I hope I'm in the right place. =) Recently, my husband and I have finally decided to get a puppy, and we decided on a yorkie. I will be getting her in a few weeks, and I want to get everything ready before she's here. I'm unsure of what size harness to get her? (Or even if I should get a dog harness at all). She's 8 weeks old. Her mother is 4.5 lbs and father is 5 lbs. The vet said she would take after her mother in size. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks! |

well the size of the harness is really hard to say without the weight and measurements of the puppy. the best thing to do is take her into the pet store and try one on. yorkies should wear a harness when walking because they have really delicate tracheas which could be damaged from pulling with a collar. | |

I would wait to buy the harness until she is home with you. Pups grow very quickly between 8 - 12 weeks, and the first few months. If she is really tiny, you can use a ferret harness from a pet store. As for adult size, at 8 weeks, all you can do is guess. Some pups stay smaller than expected, others grow larger.

| As already stated it is not safe to walk a dog that young. Maybe a little carrier that looks like a handbag? Or a regular carrier? As for size it all depends on you pup. Some people who just take their puppies out in the yard get a ferrit or cat harness while they are in that tiny stage. Eight weeks is very young for a Yorkie. Make sure whatever harness you get does not press on the throat area. |

| Hi there and welcome, I waited until Miss Priss was finished with her shots before getting her a harness. It is best to wait and see how big she gets...

| If you going to have her attached to a leash a harness is the only thing a leash should be attached too but it may be best to get one after you can measure her or maybe the breeder can help you with what size to get. Welcome and congrats on getting your new pup.
