Hi! I am new here :) I have been reading the forums for quite some time now for Yorkie advice and I finally decided to sign up! I am in the process of looking for a female Yorkie for around the end of July to early August of this year. I have actually been contacting many breeders, and I feel like Southeast Texas Yorkies seems like an amazing breeder. I was wondering if any of you guys have bought from her or heard of her. If so, what do you think? Thank you! :)

I personally have never heard of them but things to remember and do when getting a yorkie is you really want to get one near you so you can see the parents where they are living as well as where the pups are living, you want to make sure that the breeder is not sending the pups home before 12 weeks, you will want a health guarantee, also make sure the breeder did health checks on the parents and that they are free of LP, AKC registry is the best registry in the USA, and stay away from buyers who use the words teacup, micro, and mini. Good luck and I hope you find the perfect pup for you.

At first glance and with having absolutely no research other than on YT about SouthEast Yorkies the site appears to be well written by very literate and educated persons. They provide alot of good information on their site and on YT as well and are definitely very knowledgeable on Yorkies.

My only concern is their studs are Tiny and their bitches not much bigger, infact none of the studs or bitches meet the STANDARD where Yorkies are concerned.

Many reputable breeders share open dialogue (written) about the pups they are selling on YT, which I enjoy. SET Yorkies does not seem to do this so I can only assume that they are PM (private message) selling as some breeders seem to do on here, probably to stay under the radar of people like me who genuinely care about the Yorkie Breed.

Have you received a PM from them yet????

p.s. No I would not purchase a pup from them.

I was approached by SETYorkies on YT when I said I wanted a puppy back in January. Kirista was very nice, she asked me to fill out a questionnaire to get to know me a little better and what kind of environment her pup would be living in. That shows that she would not sell to just anyone, which is a GREAT thing! Her dogs are beautiful. She said she'd send me pics of some girls available and I could pick, but she never sent the pictures, so I found another breeder. Would consider them in the future though.

How so? They all appear to actually look like yorkies (yorkie colouring, ears UP) , are AKC registered as yorkies, DNA'd and health tested and do not exceed 7lbs (according to the website).

I believe she is from Texas. She doesn't send the puppies home until 15-20 weeks if they are shipped (which they would have to be as I live in NJ). She has a two year health guarantee in which she offers to buy back the puppy if you cannot take care of it any longer. The puppies are AKC registered and have all of their shots (minus rabies) before leaving and are sometimes even spayed. I am just not sure entirely yet, but she seems like a very good breeder from the information but I can't be sure yet. I will attach the links to her website and contract:

I feel like she seems like she cares as well, as I had to fill out a very detailed application on her website. I know a lot of people are iffy about shipping but it seems like she has some references here on Yorkie Talk that have said nice things. I am just always skeptical no matter what.

Ah yes, you are right I left out a few words..I meant to say the full standard - up to 7lbs.....ALL of her studs are 3lbs and some ounces all of her bitches are under 6lbs, this brings up red flags for me, personally...big ones.

You might want to go down in the breeders forum and inquire about breeders, including this one. Do your homework, do it well. You will get alot of good information from others on here as well.

I have been searching on here for quite awhile and I contacted her because she seemed to be very knowledgeable, especially on the information she provided as well as on these forums. So I am just a little confused.

Many of us here purchased vet checked, dna checked, akc yorkies. I had to fill out questionnaires and the such as well, I have two dogs that are not well.

There are SOME breeders that will say, and are well versed on what to say to appeal to you...sadly, some of them are liars.

P.S. I PERSONALLY would not purchase any pup whose parents were under 5lbs. And definitely not 3 OR 4 OR 2 OR 1.... That is my personal opinnion.

Thats why I suggest going down in the breeders forum and post for more information, I gave you my opinnion as did others. You will get lots of good info. ultimtely you have to decide who your most comfortable with and want to do business with. Good Luck, I'm sure you will find the perfect pup!

Exactly! All of her dogs are within Standard. Three of her four bitches are over 5lbs, the size most reputable breeders go with.

I'd never dealt with them personally, but based on the info provided, this isn't a breeder I'd strike off the list if I were looking, but I would want to see her health guarantee. She's actually breeding real yorkies that look like yorkies....sadly, that seems to be a rare thing.

If you go to Google and type in "Southeast Texas Yorkies contract" the first link is the contract I found. What do you think? I read over it and it seems very good, especially since she takes full responsibility for every dog she sells..

I stated my personal preference and opinion, I'm sorry it doesn't mesh with yours completely!! I agree with you on some points. I would not want a Yorkie that is being bred by small and Tiny parents. There is a possibility in any litter of a tiny, but when your breeding 3lb Yorkies that likelihood goes up, I personally wouldn't take a chance...I guess it is comes down to personal preference and what we seperately view as REAL YORKIES! I stand by my statement and my opinion.

I don't know anything about her personally. I think she looks like a good breeder. From looking at prior posts on YT all her dogs are DNA/genetically tested and every review listed on YT has been positive.

Its good to keep doing your research. I'm sure if you contacted her she could answer any questions you may have.

Hello Nicole and welcome! I am glad to see you are researching breeders and doing your homework prior to purchasing a pup. I didn't do any research when I purchased Jack. Thankfully he is a healthy, happy pup! I am a bit concerned though that you live in NYC but are looking to buy a puppy from SE Texas... I would think you would want to purchase a puppy closer to home so you can go look at the mom and dad and the conditions where the pups are being raised. I am not trying to sway you one way or another as I do not have any experience with SET but I would encourage you to look at breeders closer to your home and by looking at the Yorkshire Terrier Club's website. Here is a link - Yorkshire Terrier Club of America and regardless of where ever you buy your puppy from, I wish you the very best! These little ones are phenomenal and I cannot wait to add a sister for Jack to our family. Hopefully around the end of summer.... :D

Yeah I know what you mean, which is why I am a bit nervous. I contacted about 20 breeders on the referral website from YTCA and got replies from maybe about 3-4 saying they would actually have a puppy. The one I am interested in as a breeder (HiHopesYorkies) seems to really care about her pups but she said to contact her in the summer to see if any are available. SET Yorkies allows you to be put on a waiting list so I am definitely going to get a puppy eventually, and most likely in my time frame but I am not sure which route to go. SET Yorkies offers spaying before the puppies are shipped which might be better as the breeder has a lot of experience with her vet I am sure so it might be better that way.

What do you mean? I see the studs are smaller than AKC standard but I'm not seeing that with the dams? Just curious.

I agree. Nicole, I purchased with someone I could go and see in person, however - if I hadn't found anyone, I personally would contact this person. Seems like you're doing your homework well and I personally don't see any flags.

I have been reading a lot on Yorkie Talk about what would constitute a red flag such as selling to pet stores, not doing background checks, using the word "teacup" for advertising, having multiple breeds available, selling under 12 weeks etc. But after reading her contract and website, she seems to not do any of these things so no red flags were raised for me either. I guess the only issues is that she is willing to ship, but her contract is so well made and cohesive that I feel she must trust these puppies flying is everything is so well covered in her contract. Plus, there are a few breeders on the YTCA breeder referral that when I emailed them, they too were willing to ship. So I am not sure that this is a much of a big deal as it may seem.

I would RUN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION from this breeder! Not only is she peddling puppies on her Facebook but she has them posted on the Lubbuck BUY, SELL AND TRADE Facebook page. This is not how a reputable breeder sells dogs. I personally would never consider a breeder that conducts puppy sales in this manner. IMO, I don't care what kind of "puppy questionirre" is a required formality of approval. If you are selling puppies on a Buy, Sell and Trade page to anyone that comes along you are not reputable in my book. As a matter of fact, about 6 months ago many of the YTCA breeders that are on my friends list removed any breeders that were offering puppies for sale in this manner.

In the link that I just posted, she is promising that her puppies will be less that 5 lbs as adults. :thumbdown HUGE NO NO !!!

The prices she is selling them for on that page seem much cheaper than what she advertises on Yorkie Talk. I wonder why... :confused:
