I thought so. I don't want to put the pup under too much stress. With the dogs being so small, even a small dose of anesthesia is a lot I assume :/

You are publicly grandstanding-without a true cause. Your comments etc., are out of context at this point. You are not rendering an opinion or giving advice, you are taking this thread completely off topic and without any justification. You do not have a pup from SET and you have no experience with them, from what I can tell you haven't researched them either, as I did, and I rendered my opinion and advice based on it -AS THE OP requested.

So exactly why are you choosing this platform to defend someone that you have not even rendered an opinion on. (statement not a question). Not only that but you are asking Mod or Admin to dive in to personal P.M.'S? Seriously, this is ludicrous, to tell a Mod or Admin to do so to defend yourself against an unknown perceived threat is silly and very much over the line.

Remember this site is owned and operated by Admin (gratefully) because he wants to, not because he has to and he does so always in an unbiased way, as do the mods, their restraint is amazing. It is my belief that most members wether Donators, Yackers, Admin or Mods are all here because of our genuine love for the breed. On YT it is all about the YORKIES and not about personal feelings, and I am sure there are many times that there is dialogue posted that Mods and Admin don't agree with but they adhere to the rules and guidelines that allow each of us to have a voice so that others may be educated, on the left and the right, to ultimately select the road that leads them to not just own a Yorkie but to further the cause for the ethical breeding and treatment of all Yorkies and animals.

Nicole, all any of us want is to give you the tools to help you do what is right for the pup you select and the breed as a whole, and to enlighten you so that you can also become educated to the "Yorkie Cause" (and all pups...because if just one person is spared the pain that my pup and my family has been enduring the last 7 years, its worth it for me; If one person joins in to refuse to support puppymills, BROKERS and petshops...its worth it to me....

As for spaying/neutering puppies, I agree with Gemy.... unless the owner cannot keep the pup separated from other dogs should the female go into heat.

Moderators do NOT have access to read anyone's PMs; we just don't allow those permissions and never have - there really is no reason for Mods needing access either. IF someone reports a PM (hits the report icon inside their actual PM message), then that message (and that message only) is forwarded to Admin/Mods -- exactly like a how 'reported post' is forwarded to us. We don't go into your actual PM Box to read the reported PM - the single reported PM is emailed to us so we can take a look.

There is only 1 Admin who has permission to access PMs, and that is the owner of YT. The *only* time the Admin would access a person's PM Inbox is if a member is claiming some major harassment, and it requires the Admin to evaluate several PMs.

OP, one more thing to know about spaying and neutering: I borrow this from the ASPCA...

Very well said....and it really does not matter where or from whom you get your puppy from....it is your choice to make.....I have had BYB Yorkies that lived to be 15 yrs old and also had a Yorkie who came from half way around the world from one of the best known show breeders kennels around Italy....its all a crap shoot anymore.....I am just saying there are no guarantee's on health....................anything can happen.....its what the breeder does after it happens is what sets the reputation of the breeder. Within the last 1.5 years I have lost 3 yorkies to unusual circumstances....Scarlett at 8 yrs of age on 2/2/10 to Thrombocytopenia, she came from an excellent show breeder in Oregon..she was never sick a day in her life....she died within 48 hrs of onset..then we lost Rhett 65 days after Scarlett, he did have a Collapsed Trachea, but that is not what he died from, he clearly died of a broken heart due to the loss of his sister....he was 7 yrs old.......then in August 2011 we lost Isabella to GME at the age of 17 months...she came from a very well known European breeder in Italy...tons of champions in her lines....and no known genetic problems....I am about to get my new Yorkie boy...............scared??? heck yes I am scared.....have I done research.....oh yea....but all the research in the world can't guarantee nothing will happen....

That is so sad :( I just want to try and find a breeder with healthy and reputable practices, not necessarily a show breeder as I plan to have my puppy as a pet, not as a show dog. With that being said, I created this thread to try and figure out other opinions on a breeder that was not necessarily on the YTCA website but that seemed to be very well-educated on the breed. Now I am confused as to where to look :confused:

That's correct Nicole. Selecting a YTCA breeder does not necessarily mean you will get a healthy dog. I did, and my dog has epilepsy. The same can be said of show breeders. It's hard to find a good breeder, and sometimes, your dog picks you, like mine did. Show breeders are having their dogs measured against the competition, not just for beauty, but for soundness of structure etc. This prevents them from getting "kennel eye" which happens when they think their dogs are perfect specimens. But, politics do enter into small circles and objectivity becomes subjectivity. But, I digress......Anyway, there are some breeders who've been breeding a long time, and know their lines in and out, and you can't dig up a lick of bad news on them, and I think they are doing something right too. You have to find the person you think you will be supported by, and who will be there with you, and sometimes, you find that person only to learn you didn't find that person.

There is no perfect answer.

Best place to go is with a show breeder and get a pet quality puppy (one that won't make it in the show ring). That's where the best pet quality dogs come from.

I agree 100%. Buying a dog from a breeder does not necessarily mean that they will be healthy. My Shih Tzu was bought from a pet store over 16 years ago, and she has had absolutely no health issues to this date (other than simply being old and less active because of it). However, with the new information I have discovered about puppy mills, I know it's best to take my business elsewhere as I do NOT want to support such horrible conditions and practices by buying a puppy from a pet store. So yes, I know there is no telling the health of the dog, as there is always the possibility of something going wrong. I just wish they could all live long, healthy lives :(

To prove that I did NOT alert anyone to this thread and I had NO part in anyone being banned. I was simply stating the reason the now banned member may have come on when she did, was in response to a PM I had sent quit some time before this thread was ever started. I do not appreciate the sarcasm & innuendos & I am NOT saying from any one in particular , just that it was obvious from some members. I really don't care why the member was banned.

There are no guarantees when buying puppies, esp Yorkie puppies. Have you considered adopting an older dog?

I actually messaged her as well, as I saw on SET Yorkies website that she was listed as a reference. Figured I would message her to try and elicit some more information out of her on the breeding practices and the appearance of the kennel. She told me in her reply to me that she only answered my message because the got a notification to her email saying that I had sent her a private message asking for advice. So I mean, really it doesn't matter who sent the message because in the end, the outcome is the same. Just though I would clarify, as I had a similar response from Shorebound as well :)

I have considered it actually! I feel like older dogs are just as hard to come across as younger ones! Everyone must think they are so cute no matter what the age so they immediately adopt them :) I've been to the local shelter, but the only dogs they ever have are large ones, which are not allowed in my apartment. Plus, I have my mind set on this particular breed already ;)

I adopted a Biewer and a Yorkie, both retired breeders, a 2 yo and a 3 yo, from two different breeders, and they were extremely reasonable, and past all the puppy stages/illnesses. They are full of P & Vinegar! I think Yorkies are the only dogs that are very cute as puppies, but then metamorphisize into beautiful dogs as adults! (except maybe all the little breeds and BRTs and others, lol) Plus they were tested for genetic issues and such before they were bred.

Sadly we are all in the same boat there...all you can do is ask like you have in here get breeder info from those in here....get referrals from ladies in here...there are many good breeders on here pet or show...what ever your interest...but most of all follow your heart...let the puppy pick you....If you go look and none of them are what you want or none warm up to you then say thank you and walk away...the right one is out there for you...:)
