Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | Should I or shouldn't I? As the weather starts to warm up, and it can get pretty hot here in Kansas....I am going back and forth on the decision of shaving Ting Ting's body hair or not. She is a black and tan yorkie with a modified silk coat that is easy to maintain since she barely mats and if she does they come out with a normal brushing. But it comes down to am I being shelfish to keep her in a long coat for my own personal preference while she has to suffer? I don't know if she really suffers having a long dark coat while it's hot out or not but in my opinion she sometimes looks uncomfortable as the heat picks up. But then again she doesn't show much relieve either when cut down. My mom shave her completely last summer and I was not happy so it is finally growing back and it doesn't take forever to grow back either since she is not a true silk yorkie. But today I gave Sun-Hye a modified schnauzer cut leaving the hair on her head, face, legs and tail and she seems so much happier since she was a matted ball....but only because she mats so easily i decided that was best for her since she loves the outdoors and could possible pass for a boy dog as much as she enjoys getting dirty. Tink-ki also got the same haircut a month ago because i was so fed up with dealing with her matted hair that i couldn't stand it anymore. She seems cold all the time and also she doesnt have the hair on her legs since she was really matted on there. Now after seeing how more carefree Sun Hye was after the haircut I am really torn on what is best for Ting Ting....do I keep her hair growing since it's easy to maintain and she looks so adorable with her hair or do i give her a modify schnauzer cut also. I am enclosing some recent pictures of Ting Ting.

| She is absolutely adorable! I love the long hair...but, like you said she may be a bit more comfortable with shorter hair. Maybe don't shave it all the way? Either way it will grow back right?

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | the only thing i would be shaving is her body hair which is mainly all the black...i would be leaving her head, face, legs and tail hair....and it will grow back and pretty fast at it too...thanks for your feedback

| Wow she is a looker. I would hate to cut that beautiful fur. I guess it really depends on how much time she likes to be outside. And as others have said, it will grow back. |

| I'd leave her long. I learned awhile ago that cutting them down doesn't actually keep them cooler unless they are matted, which prevents the air from circulating close to the skin. I'm also biased since I love the full coats!

| I don't know, that's a hard one. I just recently shaved Pnut down (not sure if you seen the pics) but his hair was not that long!! Yes it always grows back, but is it worth it? I agree with Betty, I might just leave her inside with the AC She is just a little doll, her face is adorable! I do love seeing their little bodies- I think that is so cute!! Unless you think she is going to be out and about, and she is going to be hot this year, then I would. If it was going to make her more comfortable for the summer I would- We are so active in the summer- We go to the river, go to the lake, beach, we do all kinds of things and to have Peanut not shaved is a mistake. Plus he will not tolerate being outside in the heat if he isn't shaved

| I agree with the others... Keep it unless you think you are going to be outside a lot. She is beautiful! I think she would be beautiful either way, but I love her long coat

Mary, Ting Ting is gorgeous . My heart usually votes for full coats, but there are more than few members here who have given their babies shorter styles and they are adorable. Wish we could have it both ways.

| My little one gets cold very easily. I kept her coat long last summer for a couple of reasons. I like the long coat and I don't mind combing her daily. She has a fine silky coat and if I had her cut down I don't think she would look too great anyway. I did not notice that she suffered from the heat at all and when I had a fan or the AC on at night time she would climb under my sheet or her blanket to get away from the cool air blowing on her. I guess it's more about your comfort level and how much time you have for the upkeep. She is an adorable little darling. Like I said, I just love the long coat and think it's worth a few extra minutes a day to maintain. |

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | thanks for the response....and i too love the full coat look..more work for me overall to maintain it but i love the finish look.....and she is attached to my hip out of all the furbabies....she wants to be where i am at all times...and i am not an outside person..can't stand it...haha...but Sun Hye on the other hand would probably enjoy living outside if i would allow her...so the modified schnauzer look on her fits her..and she can run with the wind..the only thing about Ting Ting is she is getting overweight so i did away with free feeding and started schedule feeding to monitor how much everyone got...and she was doing good because she lost half a pound but since I bought Yukio home she has now gained back a pound more than she had lost...i dunno if the schedule measured feeding help her lose weight or not because i bought home a new bag of Blue Buffalo..they been eating to the last 3 years with no problem...then with the new bag, Ting Ki was puking it up right after each meal...and I noticed Ting Ting started scratching like crazy to the point her hair would come off in clumps....so i decided that it was time to switch to another type of food and my decision was based on google reading and all the bad stories lately about pets eating it...so it scared me since mine were reacting to it so now we are on Innova but it's a bit pricey compare to BB so I just found a Tractor Supply store nearby that carries ToTW and I just sent them an email asking for samples to see if my 5 will like it better...the price is about the same as BB....anyways i am off topic here...dunno if Innova is the aiding Ting Ting in gaining weight but i need to see what is......and because of that she seems to get hot the quickest out of all my furbabies...dunno if its' because black attract the heat or sun or what.... but if shaving them down don't keep them cooler then there is not purpose of me doing it. i rather keep her in long coat...i would like to grown a full coat on her....
