| When to spay Sally is old enough to be spayed (she's 5 1/2 months). She still has quite a few baby teeth even though the permanent ones are coming in. Any advice as to when I could schedule her spay so she could have the baby teeth pulled at the same time? I don't want to put her spay surgery off too long, but I'd rather not have to have her baby teeth pulled if they're likely to fall out on their own soon.

| I think 6 months and over is a good age.

| I have always advocated 6-8 months, depending on the size of the baby...the smaller the baby (less than 4#) the longer I like to wait. I know the SPCA has for years said it is OK to spay/neuter VERY early, (like 6-8 weeks old, ??!!!)...but there was an article I read recently that now says there seems to be some health concerns supporting the validity of that old wives tale, to wait until after the first heat cycle. So I am still researching and investigating, as I do not want to be advocating incorrect information to my babies adoptive parents..... |

| My vet takes 2-3 weeks to schedule so I waited til the new canines (the side pointy vampire) teeth were in . Ziva had 7 teeth that doubled up- Abby played a lot more tugging games and only had the top two canine teeth that didn't want to budge- She was 7 months at her spay and vet charged me $12 extra. They were both way happier once the teeth were removed, you couldn't even tell, the gums went back within a day. |

| My Winnie JUST got spayed on tuesday, she is five and a half months. The vet also pulled some of her baby teeth since the adult teeth were coming out underneath and they werent falling off.

| Belle went into heat a few days after she turned 6 months old, so she wasn't spayed until she was almost 8 months. I had planned originally to spay her closer to her first birthday, but she had complications from her heat cycle not ending due to a hormonal imbalance (persistant ovarian folicle) and the best way to treat it was to spay her.

| My vet said 7 months...so last Feb we had is scheduled for Wed Feb 16th...well Monday night (on valentines day!) she started her first heat! They still went ahead with the procedure on that Wed...they didn't charge me any extra, but if that happened to a big dog, it might have had to be post poned. I didn't realize they were going to extract teeth till I looked at my receipt! She also got microchipped while she was under as well... good luck!

| Thanks for all the help! Sally had her spay on Tuesday, and she's doing well. I didn't think to ask how many teeth they ended up pulling. I was kind of a nervous wreck, and was just glad it was done and I could take her home. I know the 4 pointy teeth came out. They had been coming in beside the baby ones, and the baby ones weren't budging so I knew about those. She was chipped, too. I know I would have kept putting it off, so thanks again.
