My vet said 7 months...so last Feb we had is scheduled for Wed Feb 16th...well Monday night (on valentines day!) she started her first heat! They still went ahead with the procedure on that Wed...they didn't charge me any extra, but if that happened to a big dog, it might have had to be post poned. I didn't realize they were going to extract teeth till I looked at my receipt! She also got microchipped while she was under as well... good luck!
