Puppy sleep and behavior Just curious. Does your puppy sleep a lot? Sometimes it seems Charlie sleeps a lot throughout the day although he tosses around so not real deep sleep. He is pretty mellow around me, but we are together almost 24/7. He does follow me around. Maybe I bore him? Maybe he is just so use to me being here? He is pretty excited and active when company comes over. If I take him in a fenced yard he jets and zooms like a madman, unfortunately I don't have a yard of my own to let him be free as much as I wish I could. I feel guilty about that so try to get in contact with a friend that has one which is sometimes not easy to do. I love when he is running wild like that!!! I feel bad although I do a lot with him. When I'm online doing school work he just lays in his bed by me. Before I got him I was told he was very mellow and docile which is how he is with me. Sometimes to the point at which he is independent and doesn't have a lot to do with me, lol. Not cuddly unless we are lying down. He knows commands, but likes to just walk away from me or if you try to pet him or pick him up he gets wiggly. Not sure what I'm asking here except does this all seem normal? I know all pups are different. Actually it's like I have two different personalities in one dog. The one that is a lazy bum and kinda like "whatever" to me and the one that is crazy/wild and squirmy when I have company. I don't want to feel like I'm failing him!

Calling him docile and independent doesn't make sense, sorry. He is very teachable, just can be "blah" "whatever" to me. When company comes over though you would think they hung the moon and were wonderful. Funny. It can be my fam, bf, the delivery lady...they are so great and exciting to him. Haha. It can be a problem though. He is getting demanding and barky with my company. Not sure how to stop that either. He is rarely that way towards me.

I have an 8 year old girl who is very similar. She used to be absolutely nuts, no way I could keep up with her. But she has mellowed a lot. Now she sleeps all the time, but on the other hand she can go from 0-60 from a deep sleep in about 5 seconds. I have feelings of guilt, too. Like some days she lies there just staring off in the distance and I feel bad, like I am neglecting her. But I take her for walks 4x a day at least, and luckily I am with her 24/7 so we are always hanging out, going for car rides etc. My dog is dodgy too when I try to pick her up but not in a rejection kind of way. She just darts a little when you try to grab her. She is also very wiggly. I know how to handle it but if someone takes her from me or picks her up it always comes with a warning that she wiggles and to not drop her. I have a bed on either side of my computer for my girl and she is always there sleeping by me. I would not say there is anything wrong with your dog at all. Some dogs are hyper, some are not. I think it depends a lot on the environment, too. Mine is very mellow but I can get her going crazy so it is still within her. Also, she still has a lot of energy and spunk, sassy and snappy. But I have noticed over the years her endurance is slowing down. She doesn't last as long as she used to. And mine will bark at me once in awhile too. She wants attention. And I know I shouldn't give in to her demands, but I do. I just grab her leash and take her for a spin around the block and she is fine.
