Senior Yorkie Talker | Confusion Hi. Everyone. I live in South Carolina and my Amara has a flea problem. I don't know which monthly treatment to use and I was concerned that when I bathe her that the products effectiveness would wear off. I bathe Amara about every week. I try to keep her coat pretty clean. Sometimes sooner if its muddy outside and she gets wet. Or if she gets into something nasty. I've been looking at Frontline, K9 Advantix and Advantage. I read older posts and some babies had reactions to some of the products. I'm trying to make a decision but a cautious one. She's so miserable. There aren't alot on her. And they don't get on anyone here. She just has like maybe one or two on her. But she's always scratching. Maybe it could be an allergy. I don't know. Please help if you can.

| I use Frontline Plus. I make sure to wait at least 5 days before giving Buster a bath after applying it. It figure he is better off dirty for a little bit that biting and scratching at himself. My vet told me they usually bite, feed, and jump off. She said if you see them crawling around on your dog then it is an infestation. I would definitely treat her. Here is also a link to holistic treatments for fleas. http://www.thewholedog.org/artfleas.html

| I have heard fleas and ticks are becoming immune to frontline so I wouldn't use it. I use k9 advantix and it works great. I would bathe her in dawn dry her very well and when she is completely dry put the advantix on. You will need to vacuum and wash all of her bedding. Once you have fleas it can be terrible to get ride of them. Don't bathe her for at least 48 after applying the advantix. Good luck.

| I would go with K9 Advantix, My vet said to wait 24 hrs after bathing to apply and wait 48 hrs to bathe after applying. It could also be allergies...feel his skin for any sign of rash or sores. Link had allergies and i switched his food and shampoo...it cleared up within a few days.

| Love Frontline Plus, have used it for Yoshi and have never had a problem. I would say to put a little behind each ear since they are so little.

| Ummmmm did you check with your vet about that? It is a poison and should be used as directed.

| I use Revolution as it also does Heartworms and mites. Dogs can have allergies to flea saliva, so even if you only saw one or two, that's enough to make her have a reaction to them. Also, with Revolution, you can bathe them two hours after the application, as it gets absorbed into the skin quickly. I wouldn't apply any flea product right after a bath, as the skin has no natural oil to help protect it and the product may cause redness or irritation.

| I use Frontline Plus on Levi every month and it works perfectly for us in our area. We've never had a problem with fleas. I would ask your vet for a recommendation for what product he/she recommends. They should know what works best in your area and would be able to give you guidelines and advice. I know if I call my vet office, I can speak to a vet over the phone and ask them these types of questions. Also, if your pup already has fleas -- make sure to treat the carpets, blankets, bedding, etc. as flea eggs can hang out in there!

| I have used Advantage for years on both dogs and cats with no problem. You do have to wait 3 days after a bath to re-apply but you can bathe your dog two days after it is applied. The product will not work if you apply right after a bath. I think a lot of people have had problems because of this. If you have a bad flea problem already and there are fleas in the house and on other pets the product will have to be applied more frequently than monthly until your problem is under control. |

| Yes, Advantage only works on fleas. I don't think the tick medication would work any better with the Advantix. Gracie doesn't go in the tick infested areas so I don't have the worry about ticks so much for her. I don't want to add another chemical anyway. I comb her daily and twice daily during the summer so she has done pretty well. Once I started meeting the cats at the door with the flea comb we stopped getting ticks in the house. It's a constant battle during tick season. |
