| ![]() You need to take him for walks. They need exercise and sunshine to be healthy. Their organs won't work properly for long without the necessary exercise, sunshine, and good fresh air is good for dogs as well as people. We walk at least two miles everyday and sometimes double that. The exercise helps their bowels and other organs to operate at maximum efficiency, plus it will help stave off arthritis in their older years. We use Advantix and have no problems with fleas and ticks.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | ![]() I try to take Katie Scarlett out every day as well. There have been a couple of days when it was raining or snowing and I couldn't go out on our usual run, but days like that I try to get out and take her to Petsmart for a walk. I know it's indoors too but she does get the fresh air to/from the car and she loves meeting all the other people/pets at the store. I know I wouldn't want to be cooped up inside all the time so I think she would feel the same way. I always pick on her on days we have just had a bath. She will always head right for the grass and roll around like there is no tomorrow. I look at her and say 'what on Earth? We just had a bath!' But I laugh it off. She is a dog and that is what makes her happy. And as long as she is happy, Momma's happy! ![]()

| ![]() Our outside dogs do get frontline for thick and fleas and they are well taking care of also. It has been raining alot here so it is to wet to spray the yard for ticks ans fleas. That is something we do in the spring and summer. This has not been a normal winter this year it's been really warm and wet. I do give Milo a pill for fleas but thinking about getting something else that works for ticks to.

| ![]() I agree that it is so important for dogs to get fresh air! One of the main reasons I love for Levi to be outdoor potty-trained -- I am certain that he gets outside several times a day, every day. Even if he were pad-trained, I'd still get him outside for a good walk or playtime every day. He loves walking around the neighborhood, going to parks, dog parks, etc. Yes he gets dirty, but he is a dog. And the best thing is that he is so small he can take a quick little bath in my sink and be sparkling clean in just a few minutes. We use Sentinel and Frontline, and they work well in our area for heartworm/flea/tick control. Ask your vet for a recommendation on what works well in your area for fleas and ticks. ![]()

| ![]() I totally understand wanting to protect your little one but as others have said, it's really for their own good to let them have exercise and sunshine. It's also a good idea to socialize them with people and other dogs. I am sure that you don't want to have a dog that is so isolated that he may be scared or have anxiety when he does have to go out such as to the vet or groomers. Mine let me know if they want to go for a walk or not...they won't budge once they've had enough of their walk, lol, then it's time to go home. But they do love to head out at first.

| ![]() Think of all the fun you'll have giving him a bath! ![]() He really does need to go outside for a walk or 2 a day. My Mickey is pee pad trained and I could easily keep him in 24/7. BUT he needs to be walked. For exercise and fresh air. So, I take him out when I take out Max. He'll be a happier dog if you take him out for a fun walk! ![]() ![]()

| ![]() He needs to go out. We were having a flea and tick problem last summer. Whenever I let a cat in I would run a flea comb through their fur to make sure they were not bringing anything in on them. You can run a flea comb through your dog after taking him outside to catch anything that may have jumped on him. Make sure you turn him over and get his belly, too. |

| ![]() I would totally invest in Frontline or Advantage if I were you. I never had an issue with Ticks but when I brought Jimmy home I noticed a couple days later there was a tick on him. I got it off...then a few days later my dog had a tick on him and I've NEVER seen one on him in the six years I've had him. Then, a couple weeks later another tick and another on Jimmy! I think I brought them home when I brought Jimmy home. I got frontline and haven't seen one since the day I put it on him. I've never used that stuff before and was afraid to. The last time I used Flea and tick stuff was 19 years ago in MA. Those products were so harsh back then but, wow, the new stuff is amazing.

| ![]() What is the temperature that you will not take your pup out in? This is a question for everyone. I know I need to get him out more, but for example it's only 27 degrees today! |

| ![]() Well mine will go outside in our yard when its that cold but we dont go on walks. I take mine for walks when its 40 degrees or more. Now Chachi and Jewels will walk in colder temps its just that I dont like to walk when its that cold. It has been in the 40s and 50s here off and on all winter. I do play with them extra though when they dont go on walks and I feel bad Im just not a cold weather person.

| ![]() Jackson goes out when it's a blizzard outside, LOL. He doesn't seem phased. I do layer him up in a jacket though. We go for walks as cold as 20 degrees. I prefer warmer weather though ![]()
