| I live on a lake in the Midwest and there are lots of wildlife around all my dogs have always spent time out side, lots of walks, swim and so forth, we even have a family of raccoons living in one of our oak trees. So I get that vaccine. it's a two part vac and I have it done with nothing else early in the day so if there is a reaction the vet will still be open. the only dog that had a reaction so far was Lola it was with the first part and very mild, she just sleepy and tender in the location where she had her shot, she was fine the next day and fine with the second part. to me it is all about the location/environment and life style you will be having with your dog. Yorkies are like little vacuums so they could probably pick it up from puddles pretty easily, to me the worry is not worth it. Last edited by DBlain; 01-27-2012 at 05:04 PM. |

| It is very bad here..Jada and Bogie have had the vaccine the last two years. I talked to my vet about it and since we live on a farm and DH is in and out after working in the fields there is a risk involved with my two. They have had no reactions to the vaccine, but we split up all there vaccines over a couple of months. Our cattle are also vaccinated for it. Leptospirosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

| Thanks...that's a serious disease. When we did our follow up with Dr. Crook in NC, we discussed vacs. She felt Zhoie would only need her rabies and distemper. She is due both when she reaches her 12 weeks recoup mark. Oh yeah, with running a farm Michelle, I can certainly see why you would have your babies done. I know it has to be a relief for you too.

| I heard/read so many negative things about the lepto shot when I got ZoE. And even her breeder had the DHPP done (without lepto or it would be DHLPP) and made note of it on her shot records that it was specifically without Lepto. So when our vet wanted to give ZoE the Lepto shot at our first shot visit, I freaked! Thankfully, our vet is wonderful and not pushy. He gave me lots of information to read and said that there have been lepto cases in Michigan, explained how it is transmitted and that is it a zoonotic disease (can be spread to humans) and said he would highly recommend ZoE get it and also stated that he gives the shot to his own dogs. So I went home, researched, read all the info. he provided and then scheduled an appointment to get it done.

| My boys both get the lepto vaccine, and have not had any issues. It can be a problem where we live, so anything I can do to try and keep them safe |

I will do the best to protect my lover boy. I will make an appt to see the vet, he is a great guy and if I get it will do it while Im off and early in the day and not on a wkend, if he gets a reaction |

| Our girls received this vaccination a few years ago, but I did not renew it because they stay indoors. However, I am now moving to an apartment and plan to walk Riley frequently around a public lake where there are geese and other wildlife so I am considering it again. |

| interesting to see so many do the lepto vac, most of the show type breeders around here that I have met are dead set against it, so I assumed most yorkies owners were not geting it. All the vets I have used have always pushed hard for me to get it. |
