I have been waiting and growing out Brody's top knot and muzzle for almost a year and the top knot did fine growng out, but the muzzle is still a 'fan' in front of his eyes that just gets bigger as the hair gets longer. The groomer assured me he was "just in this awkward stage" but I was starting to wonder if/when it will lay down as it seems to grow up toward his top knot rather than out over the muzzle. He will be 2 in March, as will Mia, but she has a little longer muzzle, which I attribute as being the difference 'cuz hers lays down beautifully. I slick Brody's down with water and sometimes a little aloe, which 'hardens' a bit and is non-toxic if...when...he licks it , but I never heard of top knot gel. I really like looking the little guy in the eyes ...if I could only see them.

Yeah...over 9 months....May 14, 2011. When we got him, he had 'the fan' plus a 'visor' that looped down over his eyes and over the fan...and the day we got him, he'd had a grooming appointment at...well, I'll not say that...just that I found a good groomer instead. I also won't say what his ear hair looked like. I was amazed he could see at all. I trimmed the muzzle and let the top knot grow, clipping it back with everything I could find (when I was with him) until it got long enough, then banded it and let the muzzle grow. I am so ready for him to be able to see out to my satisfaction.

I always kept Rosie's face "clean". My groomer talked me into growing this out. DH hates it. He always says he is going to cut Rosie's hair. Now, I will have to chat with my groomer. She didn't say it was going to take this long!!!

Where do you all get the topknot gel and can you use that close to their eyes?

ok.. I have been trying to grow Remy's hair too. It sure has been a mission!!
At one point she looked more like a shih tuz with the fuzzy face hair. The groomer cut the hair on her face without my permission.. I was so upset.

So after reading this post I saw a pack at the grocery store.. they work!! I have tried them before but they were too big.

Remy is such a doll!! Her hair looks a lot longer than Rosie in the scrunchie! How long have you been growing hers out?

I bought the topknot gel on amazon.com - it's from petsilk and costs about $7.00 for the jar. I waited until I had other things to order so I could get free shipping. The lanolin is good too - I found that it the baby aisle at cvs.

How long have you been growing out the muzzle - over a year Yikes....poor Trixie looks like she has a sunburst in front of her eyes and it's only been a few months....ugh. Hope I don't resort to scissors again.

I also ordered the gel from Amazon. It works great smoothing down the 'stagglers'.

Actually, I guess I lied...it's probably closer to 7-8 months 'cuz I trimmed his muzzle at first then took groomer in early Aug. I have also used a tiny bit of foam mousse mixed with water and aloe gel to hold down the muzzle hair longer. I just don't like 'feeding' him anything unnatural, and there is no way he won't lick it there. Got him 5/14/11. The first 3 pix are 5/22/11 and 6/7/11...4th is 8/9/11. after bringing him home from the groomer.

She is such a cutie in that...and only 2 wraps! What brand/label at the grocery store? The ones I got for granddaughter were maybe 8-10 years ago and I cannot find them again either. They are cute, with little flowers on them, etc., too. They may just be old and losing their snap...if not just too big, too.

Ah yes...the sunburst...I know it well! I do almost have my left hand trained to slap the right one when it reaches for the scissors, though. I am trying so hard to be patient but I can hardly wait for the day when the hair gets long/heavy enough to just fall over revealing my boy baby's cute little eyeballs.
