At least some action appears to be in the works for such criminal behavior...and to think most people consider Animal (out of) Control to be a 'trusted' resource! I guess I just an too naive to believe such horror is so widespread and common, although we've had 'strange' things here too with our AC a while back. For one, a large, expensive, "exotic" Monitor (lizard) was picked up by our AC and he turned up in a pet store down the street...for sale...a few days later. And that may not even be the worst. Someone let my Shep/Lab out of the fenced back yard while I was at work, and when I found her, she was on the other side of a busy 2-lane highway. While I was trying to get her safely back with hand signals, because of the traffic noise (she was extremely well trained and obedient), an officer pulled up and said he could tell it was my dog because of her training and responding to my signals, but wanted to let me know that were people coming into my area and traveling through the neighborhoods, looking for dogs they can take from yards...he said they take them to the forest and use them for "target practice" !!! I WAS MORTIFIED !!! A few weeks later, a neighbor's AKC registered, young dog was removed from a locked fence and was never seen again. I guess I was very lucky...or someone was looking out for us that day, too.

Your Armani was MEANT to be with you and a SERIOUS WRONG was RIGHTED today!!! Your Guardian Angels have been working overtime to give you the blessing of togetherness with your beloved Armani. I am so happy that you are reunited with your baby, and I so hope he is okay. I am certain he is MUCH happier being back home again with you and your family. I look forward to updates...take care!

We used to have to be careful around here because people would steal pets to sell to labs to experiment on. I guess that is not so profitable anymore so people steal them to give to people who train dogs to fight. They need dogs to let their dogs practice on. Target practice is a new sick reason to steal pets. Now I have heard everything. Just don't leave your pets out unattended. There are all kinds of nuts out there!

It really is a miracle that you were reunited with your baby Armani!! They sound very disorganized and perhaps corrupt, but for now, at least you have your lost love with you again where he belongs. Hope all goes well with the vet tomorrow. Have a wonderful night snuggling with your baby!!

Oh this just SICKENS and HORRIFIES me!!!! We have 5 dogs total, NONE of them are EVER outside unattended. We have a huge back yard that is all privacy fenced in and a kennel they go potty in, and we STILL won't let them out unattended. To many things happen in this world and I just won't leave them out by themselves. And shame on the person if they ever tried coming into our while we were gone and taking them, cause all three big dogs know how to get out of their crates in the house, a person would never make it out alive if they ever broke in.

From your description of his old wounds, it does not sound like he was ever taken to a vet, as bite wounds that are treated properly usually heal smoothly and may only leave a small scar.

Also, if he had been taken to a vet, he would have been scanned at some point while there and you would have been notified.

The pitt was more than likely sold at the same time too.

When I legally got my pets from the HS, I took them right to the vet to verify their microchips, I wanted to be sure I did adopt someone else's pet, and I wanted the chips checked with different scanners to be sure they worked as intended. My Biewer's international chip does not read on my vet's scanners, so I had her rechipped.

I remember a while back where AC Officers were taking found dogs and keeping them, or getting them for relatives and friends, so it does sound like something shady is going on there. Thank God for the honest employee who scanned your dog and called you. Bless his heart.

I agree even though I know it is a trip. I think it is terrible what happened to Armani but what is it just incredible horrible to me is you got there and they showed you the wrong dog and you had to hunt for him. They sound so completely incompetent they shouldnt be in business it is just horrible! Im am so happy for you he is back with you though and yours and his story ended up being a happy one in the end. He sure is a sweetie and he has quite a life story

kjc, that is a good point about the international chips. That is what my Border Collie has as he is from my breeder friend in Denmark. He is going in in Feb. to get his teeth done and I think I will have them rechip him. No, strike that - I WILL have it done.
