| Question please Puppy Hair Gizmo just turned 1 year old and he hasn't lost all of his puppy hair. The reason I know is his hair on the ends is wiry and black for maybe 1/2 inch. Then it is beige or a lighter black (it might even be blue but too soon to tell) and that hair is softer. Now here is my question. I have noticed that most of the dogs on here lose there puppy hair much sooner. Is Gizmo behind because he was under nourished the first year? The shelter records show he was 4.5 lbs when he was picked up, but I find this hard to believe when he was 8 lbs approx, 10 days later when we adopted him and weights 9lbs 9 oz last Tuesday. Or is he behind because he is a mix? I am also wondering if he might be a Silky Terrier because he is 13 inches long and 10 inches high at his shoulders and almost 10 lbs. I love this forum it has helped me so much. Thank you for any thoughts you have.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Hello Carlea, is a posibility that he is a silky or a silky mix, some"BREEDERS" have cross the yorkie back to a silky girl to get a bigger more robust litter, then they underfeed and sell WAY too young to charge big money for the pups, he is probably a bit behind if he was under nourished, now with you he will catch up and develop to his full potential.. hugs |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | It's possible he has some silky terrier in him, but they have really great hair at least! Yorkies don't lose all their baby hair at once, like some breeds, it kind of just grows out, and what your describing sounds like what happened to Joey. Cotton coats tend to grow much faster than silky coats, and it can take a couple of years before you really know what kind of a coat he has. I agree with you, the records sound like they were written wrong, I doubt if he gained that much weight in 10 days, but if he was also dehydrated, I guess it could happen. Lots of purebred yorkies are bigger, and size alone doesn't indicate if they are full blood. I'm glad he found a good home and he's getting lots of good food!

| Thank you for helping me and he has found his forever home. He is so great he has stole our hearts already. I am just trying to figure out what is going on. He also struts like the Yorkies do in the show. I didn't think about it until I saw that first picture in the Thread Yorkie Art. It is soooo cute. I comb and brush him every night and I can see the changes which naturally makes me wonder what he will be in the future.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Have you seen this thread? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...pot-club.html? Many of our member's babies are bigger and they call them their little teapots, which is such a cute name!
