| House Breaking Help Little Priscilla is probably about 95% potty trained. I don't put her in a crate. I take her outside once an hour, and praise and treat her when she goes outside. She rarely has any accidents. I don't really think she knows to go outside, but since I take her out so often she goes then. I'm thinking about putting her in a crate while I'm gone. I used to put her in one, but even if she was in one for an hour she would poop in it. After having to give her a bath every day for a week I kept her in the bathroom with her toys, while I was gone. Any suggestions? |

| Maybe an xpen instead of a crate... the bathroom can be a very dangerous place to keep a dog or pup.

My furkids Donating Member | I am having issues with my little guy right now..he does use pee pads once in a while but has too many accidents...it's VERY cold here right now so I don't really want to take him out...the girls use the pee pads most of the time...but do have an accident from time to time....for the past few mornings I have gotten up and Bentley has pooped in his crate!! right in his bed!! I put a belly band with a tiny pad in it on him at night and when he gets up in the morning it is wet...so I am assuming he would pee in his bed too....didn't have this issue with the girls...what am I doing wrong? he doesn't eat late...or drink...he is a tiny boy...2.6 lbs @ 5 1/2 months old...maybe he can't hold it that long? when the nice weather comes I will be bringing him and his sisters out side to potty....our yard isn't fenced in and we are doing something about that this year

I think the general rule is 1 hour for each month of age.

Have you tried waking up every two to three hours and taking him to the pads? He might have a small bladder. My first boy had a small bladder, which is why I switched to the xpen system. I don't know if it's my system that worked/works or if I got lucky, but my boys have never relieved themselves in their crates. It can be both. Let me know if you would like details. I'd be happy to help. | |
