We live outside of town in a very wooded area. I can only imagine how horrible Gracie would look if she ever got loose for even a short time. As it is I have to give her a good combing when we come in from walks during the fall due to all the leaves that attach themselves to her fur.

I have taken in many strays over my lifetime. It is tricky business finding owners but a good owner is usually frantic to find their baby as soon as possible. A dog that is pretty well behaved usually belongs to someone who has spent some time training their pet so you can bet that pet would love to be home with their family.

There are lots of ways to detect things about a stray but just looking at the condition of their coat is not a way to determine it's background.

I loved this posting. Obviously the message is, don't jump to quick conclusions on the history of a dog.

A more detailed examination of the health of the dog ( by your vet) will help you to understand more clearly if a dog has been abused.

Unless anyone of my dogs get lost moments after grooming and gets found right away mine too could look like a neglected doggie.

What a great post. Shows what an evolved and mature and confident/centered person you are. Wish everyone here had this kind of insight. I've been on the very sharp end of sticks at times during my time here, believe me, but I think it's just the *best* when you can somehow learn from it, get past it, and move forward in peace and commonality. Bc even when things get overly/too passionate here, the bottom line is it's almost always wrapped in good intentions. And yup, most people here have hearts that are miles wide !

Yeah . But again, it was a stick, not a pitchfork, and more of a gentle nudge than a sharp poke. You caused me to question my choices and my vet more thoroughly than I would have otherwise... and Bella is doing well as a result .

I'm loving the suggestion of having "drowned rat" and "hot mess" pictures of our babies along with the perfectly coiffed ones, you know, in case they're ever needed. I have drowned rat ones (Kaji looks 5 lbs lighter with his hair weighed down. ) but I can't seem to find any hot mess ones in my archive. Is this "look" easily accomplished by the longer haired pups?

Think I'll have to let Piccolo and Piper play outside for a while, take some before and after pictures. Out in the country a dog can get pretty nasty in the blink of an eye.

The hot mess is not difficult with my two. One or two days of missed brushing and a messy top knot and they look homeless
