I always gave my kids ginger for motion and sea sickness when they were young, and it was much better on them than Dramamine, etc. They took capsules a couple days before we went out on the boat, and before we left home, and maybe later in the day, too. I also always had gingersnaps on hand when traveling or out on the boat. No problem getting them or the dog, a Shep/Lab who loved water, to eat gingersnaps.

You can give ginger to dogs for motion sickness, too. I had a dog who suffered car sickness as a puppy. I didn't give her the capsules back then...I mixed it into beaten eggs or something...I forget. Cookies are not great to give to dogs, but gingersnaps do help, and you can make ginger dog cookies without all that sugar...if ginger helps your dog.

I was motion sick as a child...had to sit by a window to travel. I found my dog did better if she was up high enough to see out the windows while traveling, too...then she grew out of it.

Because it's been a really long time ago that I have used ginger in this way, I went looking for amounts of ginger to give to dogs, especially little dogs, and found this at The most frequently asked "Can I give my dog this" questions

"Can I give my dog ginger? Ginger is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and is used to treat digestive upset, nausea, gas, motion sickness, heart problems, joint inflammation due to arthritic conditions, to reduce fever, and is also effective as an anti-infective, especially against viruses. To make a ginger tea, simmer 2 slices of fresh ginger in a cup of water, add a little honey, and give small amounts before travelling and every two hours while travelling (Allegretti, 2003). Ginger can decrease blood sugar levels, and can increase absorption of all oral medications. Too much ginger may cause nausea, especially when given on an empty stomach, and can affect how well blood clots. Do not give to a dog with a gastric ulcer or pregnant dogs, since high ginger intake in humans can lead to miscarriage. Always consult with your veterinarian before giving your dog any natural or herbal supplements."

I tried RR and the Thundershirt and niether worked on Chloe. I didn't see even a little improvement. I will add that I didn't give RR to her longer than two days and then only a few drops, I don't remember the dose listed. I found the directions vague and got scared, even tho I know it's safe I was afraid of hurting her. I would rather have her a little nutsy.

I've been hoping after having Gizmo for a year and a half now that he would of calmed down in the car but no luck. We drive back and forth between San Diego and Los Angeles quiet frequently ( 3 hours drive) and I hate seeing him pant, turning around in circles and whinning for that long! Was hoping he would be used to the car by not but no such luck! Im going to call our vet and see what he recommends, since he knows how anxious Gizmo is.
