| Dilema - Now I want another baby! Background.... I am 42 ish, married for over 21 years with one skin male child who will turn 20 next month. I have regretted not having another skin child. If I could do all again.... Any way that is not an option at this point in my life. My Brutus came into our lives on a whim - no idea what I was doing or what I was getting into. What a blessing he has been - brought my family closer, so many many laughs, so many smiles and so much love. I never thought I would literally LOVE a little mut like I DO. I want another one. I am scouting out petfinder and craiglist daily. My dh wants me to wait until spring to make sure that I am serious and that Brutey will be ok with a sibling. My thoughts are this - wouldn't it be easier the younger they are? Should I have another single furbut like I did a skinbut and spoil like crazy or should I just go for it and find another? I would not buy from a breeder, but from a rescue - just my preference. I have considered fostering but don't know if I could give the baby up in the end. I would end up with a dozen!

| I agree with you that it would be easier when they are younger. I forgot how old Brutus is. Kacee has a pet puppet named Brutus.

| Hi Traci, I feel your struggle I have had the same one for 3 years (still a one Yorkie owner). How old is Brutus? In my opinion I am in agreement with your Husband on the waiting part. That would give you time to really find the perfect fur baby to add to your family. As far as being a foster for a Rescue, of course you would be helping in giving a Yorkie a new home/life. My problem is with Fostering I am not sure I could give the dog up. You could take some time, explore some good rescues in your area, volunteer with them and see if Fostering is the right thing for you (I volunteer at a local rescue here in Atlanta, I now know I could never Foster but I go every Saturday and do the morning dog chores for 30 dogs). One other comment I wanted to make is please be careful when researching getting a dog on Craigslist. I have seen some stories on Yorkie Talk from people who thought they were getting a GREAT Yorkie and sometimes it was not as represented. There are some Yorkie Talk members in Indiana who may be able to help you find a good breeder locally. I know there are a few Yorkie Talk members in Michigan who are breeders and they have really good reputations. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you.

| Brutus is almost 7 months. What age would be to old to bring another pup into the family? When my sis came over with Sophie (2 yr old yorkie) that she has rescued it was a little bit of a nightmare. She is vey timid, shy, loves to be held and not playful. Brutus on the other hand is SPUNKY, outgoing and wants EVERYONE to hold him - needy - attention grabber. They were like night and day. Is it wrong of me to ask questions of a rescue group to make sure the new potential addition to our family would fit with us, our schedule and Brutey?

| Sorry, I just read your post again where it said you were looking for a rescue. Good Luck, there are plenty of Yorkie's in rescues waiting for a good home.

| I think it would be ok to wait until next spring. It's entirely up to what you are able to keep up with. Since Mr. Brutus is just 7 mos old, you still have time to make up your mind before he is set in his ways.

| I think all the answers depend on what you want. Personaly I would never again have two puppies at the same time. I would wait until the first was potty trained, past chewing, has basic obedience etc. I have trained dogs for years. But two pups at once almost sent me to the nut farm. I could not train like I normaly do. They were more interested in playing with each other than getting affection and training from me. I was in puppy mode constantly.

| I have a 15 Year old, and 3 years ago I added 3 2-3 year old females within one year... they all get along well, so I don't think age is all that important.

I really love looking at at all the Yorkies on the Breeder Sites, but when I go on petfinder and see how many dogs are on there it breaks my heart and I know my second baby will come from there. I actually applied and got a response. I'll share in my next post as I think I am getting ready to time out. \\\

| I think I am very lucky and have a great little guy- he is outside potty trained and has been for while. I really can[t remember the last accident. Brutus can sit, stay, give 5, leave it and do a down. My biggest challenge that we are working on is COME. He is stubborn and smart, so is my skin child... I applied to a Rescue group and filled out a ton of personal info. I found a dog on Petfinder and he is still there. When the rescue group contacted me I found out the pup is not far from me - in the town I grew up in. I asked LOTS of questions in my response and gave them tons of info about us and Brutus. I never heard back.

| The Rescue Group asked where the dog would sleep - I answered all questions honestly - Brutus sleeps with us in our bed. Did that turn them off that I don't crate? They asked if I had a fenced back yard and wanted a home visit - which I am fine with. I have a 6 foot privacy fence with an in-ground pool. When asked about the fence I informed them that I got Brutey when he was 9 weeks and wouldn't leave my side. My backyard is kinda sloped, so in order for the top of the fence to be straight we do have have gaps at the bottom in some areas. I will have a landscaping company fill the gaps in with pavers to match my landscaping in the spring. I informed the rescue group about this as well. I want the dog on Petfinder and feel ill that I didn't fit his needs.
