Does where you live get really cold? If it does I think I might wait until spring so you didn't have to possibly potty train in the cold. But I think it you have the money, time and want to care for another dog then go ahead life is short enjoy every bit you can of it and dogs make life extremely enjoyable in my opinion

Please do not take not getting the dog personaly. Some times if two people are equally qualify, they choose the the one who does not have a dog already. And I swear I have seen them flip a coin to decide when both people have everything going right.

Jackson turned 3 in October and I am still in my "I want another dog but haven't gotten one yet" phase, LOL. I simply cannot make up my mind.

I puppysat for the past 10 days and while it was fun, I admit, I WAS kind of ready to give the puppy back, LOL. But she wouldn't have been the dog I would have picked for us so I am sure that makes a difference too. Jackson was happy, they wrestled and played a bit, but honestly? He seems perfectly content now that she's gone too, so I dunno, it's hard to say.

I know I'll add a second at one point, but I just don't get the feeling that NOW is the time. So I think you will just know when it's right or when the perfect dog comes along.

My Brutus came into our lives on a whim - no idea what I was doing or what I was getting into. What a blessing he has been - brought my family closer, so many many laughs, so many smiles and so much love. I never thought I would literally LOVE a little mut like I DO.

I want another one. I am scouting out petfinder and craiglist daily. My dh wants me to wait until spring to make sure that I am serious and that Brutey will be ok with a sibling. My thoughts are this - wouldn't it be easier the younger they are?

Should I have another single furbut like I did a skinbut and spoil like crazy or should I just go for it and find another? I would not buy from a breeder, but from a rescue - just my preference.

I have considered fostering but don't know if I could give the baby up in the end. I would end up with a dozen!
I'm going through a similar thing, as both my skinkids are away at college and it's just me & ZoE at home. I'm always thinking about getting another pup, and I've looked at lots of puppies, but just not connected with one enough to make the jump.

Having one dog is so easy. It isn't a problem taking her most places with me. Friends & family welcome ZoE wherever I go. We make the trip across state about once a month to visit my kids. It's not a problem sneaking one small dog into a college apartment but two might be more difficult and taking along two dogs is definately more of an imposition when visiting people.

So, I keep looking and will wait til/if the right pup comes along. I'm in no rush as ZoE is only a year old and I figure pups are like kids and a couple of years spacing between them is probably best, so each get full attention/training as puppies.

Best of luck in your search. Hopefully when the right fit for your family comes along your heart will know it

Rescues can be difficult to get sometimes and they don't give you any reason why you didn't. I've seen this happen many times with others, so don't feel that you aren't the perfect home.

Well, if everything goes well, this little fellow will be coming home with us later this week.

I have no idea what I'm getting myself into, as we just got Bella 2 weeks ago and we had NO plans to get another for a very, very long time. This little guy (if he ends up with us) will put us at our limit for city pet limits.

He's not neutered, so who knows what may happen in the wrong hands. Hes old enough to be neutered, so that will be the first thing we do, especially since Bella is a female and she won't be spayed for at least another month.

Someone may offer a higher amount than I have, in which case the owner will choose the "highest bidder" so to speak.

Please say prayers that the offer I have placed (which is substantial) doesn't get topped. I really don't want this precious boy in a puppy mill.

I think if you want to have a rescue dog it would not hurt to start looking now. Filling out applications and doing searches takes time. If you did happen to come across the right one for you then you would be prepared. If you don't find the one that is a good match for you right away then you have lost nothing but have gained valuable information.
The personality of your dog will have a lot to do with the when question anyway. I think a younger dog does adjust a lot quicker to changes in the household. If you are home much of the time then you have a lot more time to devote to the training aspect of things. Since not all dogs are alike you have to anticipate that you may have to deal with things you did not have with the one you have now.
Two dogs means twice as much fun and excitement in the home as well as more work and money invested. If you can balance those two then go for it if not then ask yourself is anytime right for a new dog?
I have always kicked myself for not getting Gracie's sister at the same time as I got her. I think she would have enjoyed having another dog in the house but now I don't know how she would accept a new one. She is a very alpha type personality and does not like to share so I may have missed my window of opportunity to add another one to my home.

Best wishes on your search.

Hi there, I was referred here from another member.

Here's a link to another thread about a little boy in Missouri that needs a home.

http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...eeds-home.html

If you're interested, perhaps we can work out some details? The number to his owner is in that thread as well, a few posts down the page,as well as the pictures of him that she posted.

I will be picking him up this Thursday if nobody else tops my offer (he's going to the highest offer). We really cannot afford to keep him, but will be providing him medical care, a neuter, and lots of love and food until we can find him safe home ourselves.

If you're interested, please please give the owner a call. Like I said he's not neutered and until Thursday, he's up for "bids".

Apparently he is a very healthy dog, up to date on shots, no negative health history, vet records and is housebroken.

"Selling to the highest bidder!" How awful. I guess they are not ashamed of their motivation for raising pups. So many people out there have animals but have no character or compassion.

I can understand how you are feeling. Although my son attends a community college, he has never hung around mom a lot. My daughter is my "road buddy" and she will be going to college in about a year. My bichon Kirby, and I will be so lonely when my daughter leaves. I am planning on getting a puppy this year. My bichon is an adult but I see where some people have 2 puppies at the same time. I can only advise you to think on it, wait and research. I know it's so tempting to rush out and get a puppy now, especially when seeing all of these adorable pups here in this forum.

I know just how you feel! I was driving myself crazy debating on no more puppies, a new puppy, a rescue puppy or young adult. I got on craigslist, petfinder, puppyfind and YT. Thanks to Michelle, aka jadabug, my search is over! Bear is 5 months old and housetrained!

Good luck in your search! Be patient and don't drive yourself nuts! The right one will find you when it's meant to happen!

I wasn't really offended that I didn't hear back from them - but more shocked I guess. I sent them a long email asking questions about the pup. I wanted to know more details about his personality as I want to make sure the "fit" works for all involved. I got a PM about the pup listed in the above post. I have to discuss with Mr. since he wants me to wait till spring. He won't be home tonight until 9pm, so we'll see if he would consider. Of course I would have questions about any new addition to our family.

It's a personal preference, but I now have 2 re-homed Yorkies. After getting the first one (male) in May 2011, we babysat a friend's ex-show-puppy Shih Tzu and she and Brody had so much fun together...they were both about a year old at the time...that when Sunny went home, Brody would just go and lay on the spot on the floor where her kennel had sat and looked sad at us. I knew he wanted/needed a playmate, and went looking for a rescue or re-home Yorkie. It only took 2 days to find her, Mia, and we picked her up the 3rd day...had to wait 'cuz travel was involved.

Mine were just over a year at the time and the adjustment was instantaneous, even before we brought Mia home, maybe because they are still quite young.

We have not regretted our decision and it feels like they have always been with us. But, again, the decision needs to be based on your own situation...all of it...baby's needs, too.

You will put up pix of your next one, right?

Of course I will post pic's! I think Brutuey would love a brother or sister. This is where I am torn.... since he is so young, should I go with a younger dog that would also love to play - or an older one? Ritchie Short (the dog I applied for) was 5 -6 years old.

Levi is 7 and Lily is 2. He never tires from playing with her. She will stop before he will and she is still the "puppy". Just depends on the dog. Good Luck
