ha ha ha...well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that. Have a nice day! ;) |

Not my opinion, I do know of reputable breeders who have a website/webpresence. But they do not "sell their puppies on line". That is to say it is a website that talks about who they are, their champion males/females of their kennel, they have tabs for events, articles, show information, health of Yorkie information etc. They may say they have puppies available, but the interested party would need to contact them fill out the questionnaire, visit, be interviewed etc. In terms of this Greenfield I did go to their website, and quite frankly why would I be impressed or even believe their contention that they visit all the breeders who advertise on this site. Who are they? Why would I even give any credence at all to any statements they might make? |

What I don't like about the website you posted is how they list puppies like they are a product. Buying a puppy shouldnt be like buying a pair of shoes, click, buy, ship! It should be a process where interviews go bothways, the breeder finding w's about thepotential pet parents and the soon to be parents finding out who the breeder is and how they "operate". I get what you are saying, it is really difficult to find a good breeder but the kind of website you are proposing will only attract millers and byb's. |

Good breeders don't have to pay other people to advertise and sell their puppies for them! ;) |
These are the breeds that Greenfield Puppies sells: Sorry about the lack of commas, I just copy and pasted. Each of these breeds has about 10 or so puppies. That would mean at any given time there would have to be a litter being born from about 3 or so breeders, probably a lot more. That is a LOT of breeders to do home checks on, wouldn't you say? Available Puppies and adults They certainly do have a lot of great information on their website though. So, I guess that kind of negates the fact that they appear to be selling puppies for profit. Unfortunately, I cannot find any seemingly legit websites like this in around me in PA. |

I emailed them today and asked that question. They told me their photographers "check things out" when they go to take photos of the puppies. I don't really know if those people are qualified to do that type of homework, but I suppose it's better than buying from a true broker. |

There is some sarcasm on this thread that isn't called for. It's not going to achieve anything positive - so maybe put it aside in favor of a good discussion...? |

A lot of the rescue's around me are selling puppies that came from puppy mills. I don't know how that's any better than me going to a mill myself. |

Where did you get your information that Yorkietalk charges breeders to post puppies? Read this: Quote:
Yorkietalk does not charge breeders to advertise puppies. Some of us thought that a person should at least be a donating member to do this, but admin did not feel that that would be right. |

Where does the money go if you get a mill dog from a puppy mill? It goes back to the puppy mill to fill the pocket of the mill owners and the dam used is condemned to yet another year of living unloved as a baby making machine. In this situation, one pup finds a home, but the buyer gives the mill owner a reason to continue their operation. If you would like to verify that, contact a rescue like yorkie haven rescue. They are a non profit yorkie rescue that can show you just where the money goes. |
Many show breeders will sell 'pet quality' puppies to the general public. Years ago, I wanted a Maltese and bought a book on same. I saw pages of pictures from the same breeder and many photos of her showing in the ring. I contacted her (in PA) and she had a male dog born with ony one testicle - means he can never be shown - but just fine for a pet quality dog that will be neutered anyway. (Neuter is alittle more expensive). Long story short - I bought a book to research the breed I wanted; and ended up purchasing a pet quality dog from a show breeder. Casper was a wonderful dog - but he was not going to end up in the show ring. I traveled a couple of hours and visited twice before I decided. It can be done. I was very young then and didn't find it all that hard. |
